I paper tested and tuned the arrows I have which were quite a bit off. I think they might be a bit longer than they should be too. Groups are tighter now and I`m working on my form. Thanks for everyones help.

That's awesome! Good progress in a short time.

I'm hitting the woods for the first time this season tonight. Hoping for either a deer or a turkey this season. Maybe both.

Been shooting an Elite Impulse 34 with both 60 & 70lb limbs. Set up for 60 at the moment throwing Easton FMJ Injections.

    Re: Bow hunting school me.

I am about to dive in. I know nothing about archery but am starting my research and trying to figure out what I'm gonna pull the trigger on for first bow. This will be my first year hunting.

ANY advice on what not to buy or what not to do would be appreciated. Hoping not to waste money on trial and error. Hopefully I can learn even a little from some guys with past experiences.

Invest in a cheaper bow to start honestly. Make sure you enjoy doing it before you drop any major coin. I have a PSE stinger that I got new for very short money that's more than capable of taking down a deer. Is it the best? Nah. But remember, indians did this with longbows they made themselves so don't get too out of hand with picking a fancy bow until you're sure it's something you have fun doing and want to keep doing.

    My 2 cents anyway

Definitely buy used. The technology is forever changing. Recommend forming a relationship with a reputable bowshop near you ( I use Morse's Sporing Goods in Hillsborough NH). Make sure your draw length is set up correctly. Don't try to pull 70 pounds out of the gate; focus on form. Buy cheap, functional arrows to play with initially. You don't want to be on your hands and knees combing through leaves for $10 every time you miss.

I had luck finding a Hoyt Charger on ebay. Randy at Morse's set it up for me and helped me to understand that no, I had no need for Maxima Reds. I shot. A lot. A few years later I upgraded to a Hoyt Carbon Defiant and now I shoot even more including in the basement all winter. If you find yourself in southern NH let me know and I'll shoot with you.

I'd recommend Jerry's bait and tackle over in Milford, Ma. They have a range in house and he spends a ton of time getting you set up and then spends time with you in the range.

I got a Hoyt Klash and I like it a lot so far.

Get yourself evaluated for eye dominance while you're at it/before you buy.

    Thank you guys.

Good Point. Definitely forgot about that.

I am right handed and left eye dominant. It doesn't make shooting firearms any easier I'll tell ya that much.

I’m left handed but right eye dominant. So far it has worked out pretty well shooting “backwards” of what I expected and did when I was younger.

Had I bought a bow at cabellas I bet they would have just sold me whatever I choose. A big factor why I recommend Jerry’s.

I am as well. So you'll be looking for a left handed bow most likely. This makes the used market a pain in the ass.
