    So I built this...

... and I will give anyone who can tell me what it does 5 dollars.

And I will give 50 dollars to anyone who can help me getting all the chit working together properly

p.s. I know no one will actually figure out what it is... but it will be funny to hear the ridiculous guesses.

It's an E-Meter knock off. You are trying to undermine Scientology with your own version of this:

Madrid, Oct 27, 2005 / 12:00 am (CNA).- The Scientology sect, which boasts of such members as Tom Cruise, Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta, has set up a recruitment site in the Spanish city of Castello, offering a free stress test to those passing by in an attempt to gain new members.

With a large sign reading, “Do you want to know if you suffer from stress?”, two members of the sect offered passersby a copy of Dianetics—the foundation of Scientology’s doctrine—and a stress test for $12.

The “E meter,” the machine used for the test, indicates whether the stress is a result of work, health or relationships. For greater comfort during the test, members provide volunteers a futuristic looking couch on which to lie down.

“This is not a machine that measures tension, like others, but rather is based on complex mathematical operations too long to explain right now,” said Enrique, a local recruitment leader.

According to a pamphlet recruiters distribute, a course in dianetics costs $36, while continuing on to study how to become a dianetic auditor costs $135, and further studies at the advanced level cost an additional $241.

Ron Hubbard, author of the book Dianetics and founder of Scientology, maintains that individuals can free themselves of mental disorders and phobias by facing the traumatic incidents or “engrams” that block one’s mind
Looks like it will work better too....

    It's an expresso machine...
No no no. It's a snow cone maker. That's what it is.
    Is it a water heater?
This is a Soviet MIRV-Six, from an SS-22N launch vehicle. The warhead contains 14.5 kilos of enriched uranium, with a plutonium trigger. The nominal yield is 30 kilotons.

At first, I didn't see the bottom picture.

My guess was going to be that it was a plastic container, designed to hold some sort of liquid.

    Here's a top shot:

For those of you actually curious, here is a bit of a hint:
I am a mechanical engineer, I study acoustics among other things... also note that there are fluidics hooked up to the tubular assembly and various pumps and tanks in the background, instrumentation on the right, above the tubular thing is a large rack built for positioning something...

It's really not possible to figure it out. But after a bunch of people say funny things, I may eventually tell you guys.

On a separate, but related note (which may help guesses)... regarding one of the subsetups that runs with this thing... as some of you may know I've had a bad luck streak of chit breaking on me... well I finally got my whole setup (which consists of three/four subsetups) running today...

    AND FUCKING SOMETHING ELSE BROKE!!!!!!!!!!!

God damn bearing let go on my big ass peristaltic pump.

For those of you who don't know, a peristaltic pump pumps fluid by squeezing the tubing in which it is contained sequentially... therefore you can flow any type of fluid without actually touching it, even if it is viscous, dirty, bubbly, etc etc without disturbing it or ruining your pump. It's similar to the way that snakes move.

Anyways, it basically sequentially sandwiches tubing by rotating a set of spindles (that happen to be delrin, and look exactly like frame sliders ) around an axle, and for half of their revolution they are sandwiching tubing.

So a flucking bearing blew out... then the spool rod came loose, put a huge gash in the tubing (making a huge flucking mess... have about 5 gallons of fluid running in this flow loop) and jamming the pump.

    Yeah.... great fucking day.

Bearing (yeah that seal is fucking toast):

    Tubing (ouch):

    Two good, one bad:

Now this next photo gives you a hint... this unit is not part of... but is attached to the whole setup this thread is about:

It is a large flow system that uses a large main pump (the one wiht the broken bearing) to run a loop in which a pressure vessel concentric to a porous ceramic cylinder (dark grey vertical cylinder behind the pump) is pressurized, forcing air through the ceramic into the moving flow. Fairly small bubbles (size and number depending on flow velocity and pressure vessel pressure) are sheared off by the flow and entrained. In the large plastic holding tank on top, larger bubbles rise out, but smaller ones remain entrained in the flow. After 20-30 minutes of running things at constant settings, you have a very large sample of fluid containing a very monodisperse bubble population of a fixed void fraction. (read: the bubbles are all the same size, and the ratio of gas/liquid remains constant). The second, smaller pump (blue one in the pic, next to the big PS pump) can then be used to pull this air/fluid mixture out and send it somewhere.... hint....
