That is a rediculous amount of effort to go through just to make sure your shaving cream is the right consistancy.

    Re: So I built this...

God damn bearing let go on my big ass peristaltic pump.

For those of you who don't know, a peristaltic pump pumps fluid by squeezing the tubing in which it is contained sequentially... therefore you can flow any type of fluid without actually touching it, even if it is viscous, dirty, bubbly, etc etc without disturbing it or ruining your pump. It's similar to the way that snakes move.
It is also, so it happens, the way our intestines move waste through the system. Its actually called peristalisis. And reverse peristalisis...yep :

So, with that as a hint, I'm guessing its the enema part of a barium enema...

    Yup.

Wait... so when I said my bearing let go... would that be the equivalent of a post-burrito toilet disaster?

above the tubular thing is a large rack built for positioning something...

It's really not possible to figure it out. But after a bunch of people say funny things, I may eventually tell you guys.
I'll take a stab at it.

It's part of some larger process, maybe for injection molding lightweight plastic parts?

    Nice watch.

Mine was a gift, and I could have gotten one of the ones more like yours, but the larger cases like that (the ~44-46mm ones) looked absolutely retarded on my wrist. Just too big.

    Mine is more my style.

    Hints... hmm let's see.

Some people have mentioned pressure, which is a good guess because it does look like a pressure vessel. The unit will eventually be under some light pressure, but that is not its purpose. The appearance of being a pressure vessel due to seals and thick stainless steel construction belies the real reason for its beefy construction. It is so tough more for acoustic reasons than pressure reasons. Also, partially because of the fluid that will eventually be used.

Think about the fact that a bubble is essentially a spring-mass-damper system. Therefore, a bubbly fluid mixture like the one created by the BFG (bubbly fluid generator... the subsetup rig I talked about previously) with all bubbles the same size and constant gas/fluid ratio can be treated itself as a spring-mass-damper, so long as the bubbles are not so large or the aforementioned ratio so high that bubble-bubble interactions are significant.

Right now experiments are being done with water, but will later go to something much more dangerous after proof of concept has been completed.

The BFG that makes bubbly fluid is right now used with water, but one like it that is smaller and made specifically for the more dangerous material will be used in the future.
