I am all digital nowadays but appreciate your offer.

Talked with WPG today. Sounds like Monday might be a wrap which is perfect timing because I just finished with the books on Proper Vape Technique and Intro to Flatbilling. I'll be more than ready when the car comes back.

I had an '05 LGT, I'm kicking myself in the ass for selling that car. I hope to pick another one up this summer, but most of them either have a million miles, or are huge money.

In getting rid of my leggy non gt with a stick. Fuck Subaru not knowing how to design an engine. There's no other brand that requires so much maintenance every 80-90k. BMW figured out how to build a water cooled boxer motor that is reliable years ago.

Love 'em or hate 'em, they've been great for me. Not sure what maintenance you speak of at 80 to 90k...?

The core design of the engines are fine. In my opinion it's the way the factory responded to excessive oil consumption, failing head gaskets and cracked oil pickup tubes that gives a poor customer experience and negative perception. As an owner of several models over the years, dealing with SoA has been the worst part of my ownership.

Subaru could be far more successful if only it got in front of a few issues that they have yet to openly embrace as their responsibility to correct....but that's all in the past now that the FA engines are out.

Head gasket, valve cover gasket, timing belt, water pump...

If Subaru didn't have awd dialed they would be extinct.

I'm guessing you're having them done while paying someone else to hop up your STD. They are quite difficult on some models due to space between the body with the engine in place. A complicating factor is the bolt hex rusts to almost a carriage head on the exposed lower ones, and the close fit of the deep bolt shoulder to the aluminum valve cover hole creates a rust/dissimilar metal bond that welds those fuckers in. You would think the oil that leaks into the spark plug holes and creates a misfire would help combat the corrosion, but alas, wrong spot.

Re: The Butcher Can't Make Up His Fuckin' Mind

    Car is home.

Pics aren't playing nice with the forum at the moment for whatever reason. I went to attach and when the window opens to select the image, the file name already shows {0000C49B-0001-0001-0000-000000000000} then kicks me back to an error page.

Anyway, I put on a few miles on between picking it up yesterday and this evening and...well...it's fun. I forgot how the rush of speed comes in, even in stock form. Nothing aggressive at first, then it quickly turns into a constant pull through each gear. I remembered how my wagon pulled much the same way.

ECU has been flashed with Cobb Stg1 so I can get sensor values and all is well so far. Haven't really given it the beans yet but each short pull is strong and consistently hitting 15lbs of boost. Couple hundred miles or so and I'll visit a closed course for some testing.

As far as the air pump that I chose to bypass, at least on this particular car, no CEL with removal of the system. This is after the inclusion of the atmospheric pressure sensor that's in one of the flow path solenoid valves. These air pump systems are completely asinine. They all do nothing but pull air from the engine bay and dump it into the exhaust path during cold start. So dumb in every way. Due to the failure I experienced with my 2005 4Runner, I elected to bypass this one as well, before it fails on me.

Time to rub more pennies together, address the brakes and suspension then go shopping for #buffhorses

I just got my '12 Impreza back from the dealer. To do the valve-spring replacement (under recall), the engine had to come out of the car.

    I find this hilarious.

Just to put this into context, assuming 15k miles a year that takes 5-6 years to do 85k miles, cars aren't impervious to the effects of aging. shit breaks.

You know for someone involved in the auto business you sure are uninformed...

    Oh wait...

That's 3.5 years for me btw. I'll take my cheap commuter that will do 200k with oil, tires, and brakes thanks.

Re: The Butcher Can't Make Up His Fuckin' Mind

Not counting shit braking I'll use the nissans i service everyday for this equation

    oil every 5k
    rotate tires every 5k
    engine filters every 15k
    incabin every 30k
fuel induction cleaning we do them at the 30k service
brakes (when they wear 30k for rear 40k for fronts)
brake fluid 2 years or 20k
cvt tranny fluid 50-60k (new titans pickup want its's trans fluid done at 30K
    coolant @ 100k
spark plugs are good for 100k
    awd differential fluids every 35-40k

and thats not counting shit that breaks.
and i know your gonna bitch that of we are just ripping you off and blah blah, but when shit something goes wrong with the car, the customers that maintain their car with us we will go to bat with nissan when a tranny shits the bed. i see it every fucking day.

also any one of us is buying a used car, you gave two cars: one has full service history and records and one has jack shit... which one do you think we're going to go buy.

also your gonna bitch about timing belts.. you brought a subaru, you knew that getting into this. as for the leaks/ head gaskets and other quirks, its just that. pain in the ass quirks. I deal with broken transmissions day in and day out.

Uh. You just listed preventative maintenance? Congrats?

    Cvt tranny's are shit. That's a known. I won't get one.

Subaru also can't design an engine with decent service intervals for shit. That's also a known.

I'll stick with my manual Ford econoboxes. Last one had over 200k on the engine which was never touched other than spark plugs and oil changes.

CVT are indeed shit, my dude. I've yet to drive one that doesn't suck.

agreed this as all preventative maintenance, and i have to fight with people left and right to take car of their shitboxes. then come in well after warrarty is up and complain that their car is broken. people are fucking idiots.

Going forward Ford is only selling Mustangs, Crossovers and SUV’s in the US so stock up!

To say that your Ford (or our 2006 Outback with 233,000 miles) is representative is silly. Only a few percent of vehicles are driven over 200,000 (the average is 1.2%), and the vast majority of those are body-on-frame V8 trucks.

Mrs B had a 2009 Legacy i that did exactly that. Traded it just shy of 200k and only because she was not comfortable with the thought of adding oil between the required change intervals.

No head gaskets, no engine replacement, just tires, brakes, oil, t-belt and we also decided on struts at 160,000.
