    Moth balls.

You'll be shopping for a new rider by mid-afternoon.

I hear letting a family of mice build a home in the air box can fuck things up good. Second hand, of course...

My dad had a craftsman snowblower that he had for about 17 years, maybe longer. the only reason he replaced was it had a fuel leak that was near the exhaust leak. wasnt worth fixing...but it still ran like a champ.

    Re: I Can't Kill It!

Arrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhh!!! I thought it was a done deal yesterday. Big Shirl decided to use it to 'mow' the back yard - nothing but wild blackberry & strawberry, other weeds, small branches, rocks, saplings, you name it. Even she giggled when she presented me with the idea, going so far as to tell me with a smile, '...you wanna kill it, right? This should do it...'. Yeah, right. Not a fuckin' chance...

Oh sure, there was a coupla times it stopped dead in it's tracks. But even Big Shirl's tiny body was enough to pull it back to life with one pull. There was even a few moments when we thought for sure it was dead. Then Big Shirl had the bright idea of checking the gas tank. Shit, foiled again!

I won't dump sand, metal or any other foreign objects into it. I won't toss it outta a moving truck and I won't leave it on the side of a road. It's become a contest to see just how much this thing'll take. The cat's outta the bag now, so it's no big surprise to Big Shirl. She's made this apparent and we BOTH thought we'd be going shopping this weekend for something that I can sit on with cup holders. It's on now, it's me or the mower. I'll NEVER buy another Craftsman, especially one with a B&S engine!

    Fuck!

Sell it to me cheap while it has life in it and get a lazy man rider. My lawn is going to need to get hayed soon.

I hear ya. But my point is the common answer to ANYTHING Craftman around here is something like, '...don't EVER buy one ESPECIALLY with a B&S engine...'. Yet the two ticket items I have from Craftsman with B&S engines are nothing but champs, through & through...

    ...I...just...can't...Jay...

Now it's on. While I'm gonna do my best to kill it, it must be an almost natural death. It's a contest in a way now. I'll continue to NOT maintain it, I'll keep leaving it out in thunderstorms and I'll do what I can to guide it along it's death path. But to simply give up on it's destruction and simply pass it along NOW would be giving up on my end. It is SO on...

Why don't you just add some full syntheitc oil. We all know what that'll do to a motor that wasn't designed to run on synth.

if the cockroach B/S Craftsman that came with my house is any indication you have a long way to go, my friend. Starts first or second pull. It was probably 20-25 years old when I got it. I went to change the oil. Wasn't any to change. It was basically dry, so I filled it with oil and it's been chucking rocks at the dog reliably for almost 4 years now.

I never had one. I picked up one that needs a carb and throttle cable. It's probably cheaper not to fix.

I need to come over and scour your basement cause you live closer than Chad so I figure I'll start there.

Yeah, it's still alive & well. No, seriously. The same fuckin' thing. Although I actually broke down and *GASP* sharpened the blade last year. Furthermore, and this is a true story - I checked the oil. Yup, I'm kicking fate square in the hoot. After 15-16 years of not so much as checking the oil, I find it fully within accepted range and looking pretty damned good. I may even pull out all the stops this year and tap the dust & grime off the air filter cleaner...

    FIRST. FUCKIN'. PULL...AGAIN!

I thought about this thread last week when I pulled mine out from under the deck, where it's been all winter, and it started on the first pull.
