power went out on my street a couple days ago, so I pulled my 25 year old Coleman generator out. Its got a 9hp Tecumseh, always been a hard pull, but this time it took me about 15 pulls, (only cause I don't have the strength I used to) I'm considering selling it and getting an electric start. Even though it's 25 years old, it's only got 50-60 hours on it at most. The biggest concern I have about getting an electric start is that the battery has a good chance of being dead when I need it seeins that I have gone several years between uses, and I'll prolly end up pull starting it anyway

I also have a pristine Craftsman snowblower that we purchased just after we bought or house. In the 20 or so years I've had it, I've never once used the (plug in) electric start. Never takes more than three pulls after hibernating. Admittedly, I take much better care of that than the lawnmower though...

the generator is a hard pull, my Honda snowblower with a more powerful engine always starts 1st or 2nd pull(most often 1st) depending on how well I can get at the pull cord when I park it, I have used the electric start (110ac not battery) a few times when I parked it in a position I couldn't get a pull on the pull cord

the Tecumseh in the generator feels like much higher compression and if I leave it outside in winter (made that mistake once), I just can't pull it hard enuf at all, hafta keep in inside so that the oil isn't thick as grease. Even warmed up if I shut it off to refill the fuel tank, it's still a hard pull, might take me a couple of tries, I think the pull starter only turns it thru 2 strokes instead of all 4

Gas from last year, throttle cable so stretched I have to adjust the throttle linkage by hand and it starts first pull. Just fuckin' great...

Well now I've gone and done it. Gave that fucker a spa weekend as a reward for all it's hard work and for living such a tough life. Pressure washed, fresh oil, air filter & plug. Slapped a new throttle cable on 'er, greased up the throttle linkage, sharpened the blade and even replace the drive belt. Kind of like a pre-20th birthday party for the old dog. Let's see how this sumbitch handles the glamour...

Whenever I fill a gas can, I treat it with Stabil. About every third or fourth time filling a gas can, I'll do Stabil and Seafoam. I never drain anything for storage. Sure as fuck not this fuckin' mower!
