as it is for most pros, unforunately, I can't justify a grapple skidder for my 2ac lot, nor could I even if I had 20ac like Stoneman, when just cutting a years worth of firewood

I do my best not to skid tree length, by bucking it to 66" bolts in the woods and dragging it to my yard with a sled, even then, some dirt somehow gets into the bark

I'll cut 16-18" rounds and carry them out. lately I've been cutting new trails to the downed trees to cut/split then toss em into the cart to haul to the woodshed.

I'll probably need to think about harvesting heavily wooded ares in 5 years.

Also check out American Arborist. I did not find Sherrill to be exactly helpful with answering questions from a new climber so I ended up a customer of American Arborist as a result.

Want to build some small rustic bridges and being able to saw some thick planks would be a plus. Started watching Granberg videos.

But we will probably cut them freestyle.

    Anyone use The Beam Machine?

Want to cut rough 2-3” planks for a few simple walks/bridges over low spots. The edges can be left rough.

Wouldn’t mind a Granberg mill but my neighbor has a bandsaw mill so he can cut planks a lot faster and easier.

Re: Chainsaws: What do You Have?

i was thinking of the Granberg Mini mill for the vertical cuts

i saw the beam machine on youtube and i figured i may achieve better cuts with the rail system than using a 2x4

I used to have something similar, not sure what happened to it, if I still have it, I don't know where it is.

I made some beams from hemlock that I used to build a workbench, it was ok for beams where up to an inch variation in dimension didn't matter, not so good for planks

make sure you get a ripping chain, a regular chain will clog in the sprocket quickly

Oh, he’s already got a Granberg Rippah. Bnib like the rest of it, but only for 20” bar
