. “If you want a pos used over-priced chainsaw please buy me. I've been posted for years now at the same price. I'm the Peterborough Guy.”

Peterborough guy has 16 ads listed, a rough MS250 for $250. That saw is $360 new.

Re: Chainsaws: What do You Have?

After all this I was in HD and I just said fuck it. Bought cheap Ryobi gas powered 16" bar saw. I chose it over the echos because it was a bit cheaper and also rated for a bit more power. I'm a decent 2t mechanic, so I figured what could happen that I can't rebuild? Anyway, fired it up today and started cleaning up the "yard". I think it will be just fine for my needs.

You’ll regret that when you figure out most of it is plastic and cannot be repaired. I know because...

Saved an '86 Husqvarna 266SE from the scrap bin. Little heavy, little buzzy, but she cuts like a champ with a new bar, chain, fuel filter and lines. Chainsaws: What do You Have?-img_20200401_175526472-jpg

*And by champ, I mean better than my newer XP saws.

Well, I figured I'd find out here how bad they are. It is incredibly light and runs great. I'll try not to crush it.

We were given the cheapest Poulan 14" sold. It ran fine - once we put the chain on in the right drection! A coworker borrowed it, cut and bucked three big pines. Only change was an Oregon chain.

Re: Chainsaws: What do You Have?

My craftsman broke the chain brake right off the first season I used it. Although I've since broken the same off a "pro" grade Husky saw. So maybe it's just me and I suck at life. The difference was the Husky part was easy to source and replace. The craftsman not-so-much. I eventually threw the saw out as it kept braking the chain all the time. It simply never ran well. Bucking was one thing, getting through the trunk was another.

I've also been complimented on my ability to dull a blade.

    So. You know.

To be clear, the chain did not break.
The chain brake broke. Or rather the handle to the chain brake broke.

ahh! makes more sense, I was trying to visualize how a chain could break, I had to replace a spring in a chain brake once, required a special tool that cost more than the spring, well, didn't really require it, but made it a lot easier
