You're probably right and that's too bad. How old you think it is? I'll legit measure it next time I'm out there. We're making a new trail around the perimeter of the property.

Diameter at Breast Height. It’s the height of an average man’s chest. It puts you high enough to be above the base of the tree where it flares out to the roots.

makes sense, this does flare out a lot at the bottom. Either way, it's a big fuckin tree, and the largest on the property.

DBH (4½ft above ground) is the standard foresters use, it's above the root swell and above the root swell, different species have pretty consistent tapers for scaling. I have several dbh tapes, each inch is 3.14" long, divided into tenths, with a hook on the end, and the underside, an engineers tape divided into feet & tenths & hundredths

Final push to buck up enough cordwood for the winter .

Picked up a couple of new techniques for chain sharpening lately and I think my cuts are much cleaner .

No way I’m spending $43 on something used occasionally.

BUT, we have a label maker and some conventional tapes. So applied them from 10-28” diameter. Frankly a felt tip pen might be even better. Put them at an angle to stand out.

it would work better on a cloth tape, a conventional tape measure doesn't bend around outside radii well
