I give to local charity, primarily the school departments. Some monitary but mostly by volunteering for the PTO as treasurer and fund raiser. I also volunteer at the schools for other activities.

We recently raised over $50k to construct a handicapped playground...the first in this town!!

Sure... I give a little to several different Charities

Salvation Army - Mostly for the tax deduction

Lions Club - becuase they seem to do a lot for kids who need glasses and I have family who are in that field

Jimmy Fund - A good friend's father in law died of cancer last year

Habitat for Humanity - I volunteer my time and skills

I give to the local ones too when the fire fighters are out collecting. I also give to PBS because I like their programming.

We're suckers for can-type 'drives'. We like to give the scouts BAGS of canned goods. We also give BAGS of canned goods to our daughter's school this time of year when they usually do their 'drive'. We like to make sure the food we're donating goes to hard-luck families in our town though...

The Scout-kids must get a kick outta all the shit we give 'em, and we think they tell their buddies. Every year we get another kid from the 'hood dropping off wunna those bags they hand out. We've got FOUR bags waiting by our front door, waiting for the different kids to come pick 'em up Saturday...

They usually get a kick outta all the 'toys' in the yard too...

EDIT: We also hit the 'boot drives' the local FD has a coupla times a year...

I give donations to the local thrift store and library, to the SPCA by my Aunts house for her Christmas gift (she has everything, wants nothing), and to the Mitten tree in my Grandmothers honor (she knitted and crocheted like a fiend before she passed). The kids hit it big at my house for the can drives because I take the bottles back so infrequently.

I try to be nice to the poor Salvation Army folks freezing their asses off ringing that stupid bell, by giving them money.

Also, I donate to the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (or Foundation or whatever the fuck it is) because my sister has PWS.

And, most importantly, I donate to Toys for Children - named Chris .

This Christmas, I'd like to donate to something to our soldiers overseas - anyone know of a good one?

I give to United Way, The Women's Memorial, and various children's charities. In fact, I'm in a Mini Toy Run in a few weeks and would like to fill my Mini with toys to donate (if anyone is interested in helping me fill my car let me know).

I also donate my clothes to the Salvation Army.

    Good soldier, or good something?

A good soldier is Mike Dunn, fellow street rider and co-worker, he escorts convoys.

A good something is a movie (dvd). Please, no chick flicks (he gets teased by the other soldiers).

I guess you all reminded me that I give to charities alot more than I thought.....

    Clothing to the Salvation Army
    Can drives for the scouts
    Supporting local kids activity centers
    Local Fundraisers
Animal Shelters (by buying return address labels)
    Care packages to the Marines
    Toys for Tots
and usually I do the Secret Santa program by adopting a needy family and providing dinner and gifts for the kids on Christmas Day

Hey, thanks, I never really thought about all this.....it adds up huh?

Dan, get a list of what he wants and an address we can send it to and I'll buy a couple and maybe some others here will also. We can send a few DVD's as a care package. We need to move fast on it though because the mail will take a couple of weeks to get there.

    derek

See my sig. These guys really need all the help they can get. If there's only one charity you give to, this should be it.

I adopted a coupla sailors at the onset of the Iraq invasion. Sent them dried foods/ snacks, magazines, mouthwash, toothpaste/ toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, hair conditioner, skin cream, Goldbond powder, deoderant (stick kind), floss and all kinds of random shit. I just pushed my cart around wally-world and filled it with goodies. Don't forget to save all your receipts so you can deduct it from your tax bill.

    Clothes to local thrift shop
    Books to local library
All our returnables go to the Lions Club recycling center and all money stays local.

There are a large number of people in our area who are pretty bad off and need a lot of help. I'd rather keep the bits and pieces that I can give in my town, knowing that 100% of what i give is going to the good and not overhead or advertising or any of the big-foundation needs.

On the flip side, we also donate to breast cancer research (Man God's mom is a survivor) and to the Sloan Kettering hospital cancer funds (my dad is a surivor - twice) and to the ALS society (Lou Gehrig's disease)(a very dear friend is suffering quite badly and it is the most horrible disease I've come across personally).

Charity is something that all of us hope we never need... but in the event that I ever do, I hope that people like you guys continue to give.

Some of my fellow RA's did the walk for breast cancer and had a concert in order to raise funds for it so I donated to that. I also donate to college sports teams raising money.

    Edit:
I also am sending DVD's and Cigars to one of my buddies in Iraq right now who is going to Kuwait in a few weeks.

I don't give much to charities. occasionaly I will buy a benefit raffle ticket when I have a chance of winning something. last time I did it was a breast cancer benefit raffle that they were selling at the MotoMarket open house

I DO donate regularly to the scholarship fund of NHLSA to promote more students to become land surveyors, donations are rarely cash, usually items to put in the fund raising auction..
