Holy fuck! I'm 40-45 miles (one way) depending on which way I take. RARELY takes me more than an hour either way. Yet another reason I love living where I do.

    Good luck, man!

I love it here in AZ, best move Iíve ever made. My dream job commute is 6 miles and since we are about as far west in the Phoenix valley as you can be the traffic is negligible.

Re: Long Commute for Dream Job?

Since this thread has reached it's logical end (congrats, BTW) we can move on to speculation.

My current reality is I work for a company that....well, we're probably not making the "Top Ten Places to Work in RI" anytime soon. There are a lot of challenges that go along with that. That said, I'm compensated well and my commute is 6.8 miles with no traffic and daycare directly en route. Sometimes I allow myself to drift off into fantasy land of working at one of these chic outfits that give unlimited vacation, 6 months of paternity leave, a kegarator in the kitchenette, and bosses who care about everyone's feelings all while being on the verge of curing cancer.

Ultimately, a dream job can mean a lot of things. There are lots of ways one can find satisfaction in what they do and it isn't always benefits, or working in the industry you love. To be perfectly honest, if Boston Dynamics offered me a job today I'd have a very difficult time hoisting my ass out of bed at 5 am every day for a 2.5 hour round trip to Waltham.

Re: Long Commute for Dream Job?

I gave up a lot of fringe benefits from corporate america to work where I am now (less vacation, fewer holidays, less 401k match, etc). There are still things that frustrate me about the new job and I do have my tough days but overall I am glad I made the change and hope I continue to feel that way. If I had kids and a wife, making this change would probably not have been feasible.

One of the pit falls of modern life is finding a new job when the spouse is anchored to theirs

I learned to hate a commuting as the largest waste of time and money

I am where I am because 25 years ago the nearest livestock was 200 yards, now horses , cows 2 miles

Re: Long Commute for Dream Job?

I was offered a dream job in Boca Raton this weekend. I'd be there in a heartbeat but for the fact that my wife has the golden handcuffs at her job. It's just not financially viable to move a teacher out of Massachusetts and into the Florida school system.

This morning it took me around an hour and 50 minutes to travel the ~20 miles from my home to my desk. Just ridiculous.
