Seems an odd place to store duct tape.

I think we made 1 mistake, we fed the bees another dollop of honey that I don't think they needed, bees are all in the hive today instead of out looking for nectar on such a nice day

They'll have that cleaned up in no time I'm sure. I glanced at my hives today before I left for work and there was pretty heavy traffic in and out, at least for what I've seen so far. It's definitely a nice day. I'm hoping to see a lot of new comb drawn when I do my inspection Friday.

I have plenty of traffic in and out yesterday when the plate of honey inside the hive was nearly empty, today, not so much traffic

Holy crap that was long...really cool though. I dont see the need to do it without gloves. I saw him get stung on the hand at least once.

Added a third and two second brood boxes to three hives. Added a honey super to the fourth hive. Am flirting with fire currently, haven't put the bear fence up since we moved. Need to get on that this week.

we just opened our hive the first time since we removed the queen's cage a few weeks ago, one thing for sure with top bar hives, you must keep the honeycomb vertical or it will fall off the top bar. everything looking good, we rearranged the order of the top bars, keeping the brood combs closer to the entrance

Nice! I can imagine the comb is wicked delicate only being attached in the one spot. I get nervous moving my foundationless frames when they're not fully drawn

last time we opened the hive 2 weeks ago, we looked for the queen, but couldn't spot her, today, I was looking at photos, I can see her plain as day, the yellow dot painted on her back about 2" in from the right edge of the comb and 2" down from the top bar

I also have marked queens but I couldn't find one of them when I inspected last week. I added a brood box to each, I'll be reinspecting this afternoon I think. They could have used it a bit earlier but I didn't find any swarm cells so I think everything is fine.

I got to say, that naturally shaped comb is beautiful. My ladies were out in full force today (90). Im gonna need to get in there this week to see if they need more space.

Re: Convince me not to give up bee keeping

Did an inspection yesterday but only made it through one of my hives. They had a bit of a mess started.

I added a brood box on top and they kept building up from the full frames on the bottom unfortunately, rather than starting at the top. So everything was stuck together. I grabbed some fishing line and slipped it through between the boxes to cut the comb and got everything separated. Ended up scraping some crosscomb out and left the rest, then switched the boxes so hopefully they start at the top and build to meet the rest. Didn't see my queen, and I did find two capped supercedure cells. I seem to have a lot of drones but definitely not a laying worker. I think maybe they're unhappy with the number of drones so they're making a new queen. Not looking forward to trying to find her once they kick out the current marked queen.. TONS of bees though.

I did still a small piece of capped honeycomb while I was in there. Looked too good to leave it haha.

    Checking the other hive today.

Added a honey super to hive three and another brood box to hive one. Hive two is a little slow out of the gate it appears. Hive four is plugging away and the honey super is half full or so.

Anyone in NH playing the agricultural tax game?

    Thanks,
    Fitz
