Wish I knew more and figured out the mining aspect.

Do you think there will be any value correlation with the fork expected on the etherium network and the price of ETH?

    I bet that's a super noob question...

There is no money in mining if you're mining in New England. The cost of power outweighs the benefit.

My stuff has doubled in the last couple weeks. I'm basically back around my break even. Still a bit shy but that's alright. Feeling a lot better now lol.

I abandoned crypto, but I should have bought some when it bottomed out just to recover my losses

Life is good sometimes. My stash has recovered most of it's value.

Of course, now that it's getting into AC season, prices are drivin up up up. So glad my basement stays cool. Feel bad for people who run large operations that need to keep those mining rigs cool.

Goldman Sachs is getting into the ring. That gives crypto some legitimacy. But it also means Goldman Sachs is involved so be prepared to have the rug pulled out from under you at any time. And by pulled, I mean manipulated.

    Re: Crypto currency discussion

The manipulation is there, among many players though, which lessens any one entities ability to create massive change.

With traditional currency, typically banks, gubmints and large financial institutions have the only say.

With crypto (well, mine-able crypto) you have other influences that can play a role as well including power prices, weather (for cooling), GPU cost, difficulty of the algorithm, presence of ASIC miners, relative ease of miners to change which currency they are mining in response to price, etc.

It's quite an interesting case study in micro and macro economics.

    Re: Crypto currency discussion

I see no reason fiat currency goes away. No room to issue more bitcoin to deal with inflation, the government cant hold a reserve without reducing the supply so there is no way to deal with other economic crisis, I see no way it would ever work. People act like the government having control of money is bad, but the government is only the combined power of each citizen; without our citizens the government has no money. It would follow that if our government is only made up of citizens, the citizens should use a currency issued by that government. There are 100 crisis', from the great depression to the 2009 crisis that required a centralized bank to deal with them.

Blockchain ledgers are different and are def here to stay, but not many are expanding on it beyond crypto. We may see the USD move to a blockchain system but it will not be replaced.

It's not as good for governments, as it reduces their capacity for control and theft, which is why they have mostly abandoned it.

Besides, GPU's are starting to be available again. Give it another 6 months and they will be everywhere.

Twitch amazes me. The fact that almost any stream can get people donating/subscribing, ANY stream just floors me. I literally had a stream I setup that just shows the comp queue for Mech Warrior Online (Get off my lawn, don't want anyone possibly stepping on my neck beard!) for days at a time and I have followers?!

I have a hard enough time spectating physical sports. How people can spectate others playing video games is just beyond my realm of experience.

If anyone has been paying attention, the market for bitcoin has stabilized significantly. The wild 4 hour swings are all but gone on a daily basis.

Phil no offence but your talking about the gold standard and it was a fucking disaster. Take off the tin foil hat and look at it realistically. The government can and will still collect taxes on bit coins if that is what you mean by theft, but consider that almost all bitcoins transactions benefit TERRORITS AND CRIMINALS TRYING TO KILL YOU and it's pretty confusing why you would pick ms13, Al Qaida , ect over the govt lol.

And yes, paying some unknown person 10k for a bitcoin so they can launder money unobstructed is directly benefiting terrorists and criminals

Also, the fact that people advocate for its stability in hours when literally any other currency moves in hundredths of fractions per month property much disqualifies it as currency. It's more volatile than most stocks and is accepted nowhere except as ransom or for a hit man, I have no idea how people can believe it is a currency and trust the scammers selling it so much (yes you are buying it from people and they are getting rich) and be so skeptical of literally anything else lmfao

    lol.

    a) No, what I was talking about by theft was currency manipulation by the government, intentional inflation, printing their way out of debt, etc.

    b) You say "almost all bitcoins transactions benefit TERRORITS AND CRIMINALS TRYING TO KILL YOU and it's pretty confusing why you would pick ms13, Al Qaida , ect over the govt lol" and then tell *me* to "Take off the tin foil hat and look at it realistically". That's just precious.

There, there, now. That's a good boy. Believe the propaganda.

    Re: Crypto currency discussion

I mean believe what you want, but I think your making a big mistake by investing based on your emotions and not logic. I won't argue with you any more, but if you knew more about how money actually works and where fiat currency's derive their value you might start to see why everyone is beating up on it. I think it is pretty inappropriate to encourage people to buy something you don't understand but you obv arent changing your mind.

10k invested in the stock market at 25 is $227,000 by the time you are 65, pretty much guaranteed. I'll take my stocks over this any day, and you'd probably do better saving at foxwoods than bit coin, but to each his own. Just don't be relying on my social security taxes for your retirement because that's going away quick.
