My hardware lives in my perpetually 48 degree basement. Helps keep a little chill out of the air!

This type of thing is GREAT for unused clock cycles.

I too have a ton of laptops that would be so good specs wise for this, but the heat would just burn them up. Oh well.

It's time for me to upgrade my desktop rig since I can't play Wolfenstein 2, was thinking about mining with the old one.

Do you guys think it would be worth running? FX 6300 6-core 3.5GHz, 16GB, GTX 760 GPU?

That should blow the doors off my low end boxes in Monero. 'Worth' running? That's a fun calculation that I haven't bothered to do yet 'cause I NEVER DO THE MATH.

In completely different news, Clayton, wanna start an NESR pool? Setup Monero Mining pool using node-cryptonote-pool – BetByBitcoin – Best Bitcoin Casino & Betting Game Review Site

I've been thinking about mining. My laundry room has no heat and the pipes can freeze because it gets too cold out there sometimes. A mining rig in that room would do double duty.

North Korean Hackers Hijack Computers to Mine Cryptocurrencies - Bloomberg <- No fair, I have to compete against North Korea?! That explains the recent bump in Monero's difficulty.

I've come across a few websites that explicitly state they want to use a "small percentage" of your CPU for mining. I'm not sure exactly what they're doing to accomplish it, nor have I entertained the idea of ever returning to those sites.

Today's research project will be a pool proxy that should improve the efficiency of my farm by splitting up workloads across my miners based on their hash rate, should result in more block submissions overall and fewer rejected due to being stale. It'll also let my lil ARM box and other slow systems actually contribute in a meaningful way.

Let me know how it works out. I have a bunch of time building out Ubuntu machines for all kinds of reasons, this might be something fun to mess around with provided it brings any value to my mining operation.

This mining silliness will only deepen the class divisions between the haves and have nots in this country.

In response to this certain but yet to unfold travesty, my newly formed “Occupy Geek Street!” movement is working out the final lyrics for protest chants centered around a “what’s mined is yours” theme, which will be used to further our primary objective: Government-provided crypto currency mining supercomputers with training and top speed connections for all Mass residents, STAT!

Proxy setup is easy, getting it to work... not so much. Digging to see if there was a protocol change recently with stratum as it's barking about a TypeError every time it accepts a job from the pool. Might be my choice of pool, dunno.

    Re: Crypto currency discussion

So, the proxy is interesting. It doesn't work with all pools, those it does you get far fewer rejected (stale) results and the ones you do get are smaller for less impact. Between the proxy auto-sizing difficulties to your individual miners, and the pool autosizing to your proxy you end up outputting a fairly consistent stream of results back to the pool. It also means that my GoFlex Net running ArchLinux ARM and kicking out a whopping 1.5 H/s is actually contributing.

If you've got a bunch of systems that individually can't kick out say, 200 H/s each, it's a good way to get them useful in pools with a higher starting difficult.

Verification periods are stupid long right now and I know Binance and bittrex have put a hold on all new registrations. I’d get signed up and verified on the major exchanges ASAP if you want to trade because the surge is in full effect and you will be waiting. I’m only trading on Binance now but also on Coinbase, Kraken, Bitstamp, Gatehub, Bittrex, waiting on Poloniex

What is the general strategy people are putting into this? I got it to make quick money and get out. Now that ive made some and after last weeks slide im looking to get out. Most people aruging me to stay put but i never really planned to in the first place. Im just wondering if my wanting to get out is an oddity or the common situation.

That was my original plan and thoughts to a tee. I lost shit loads last week for holding too long but its coming back a little. Given how little i put in and how much i made i could go either way. My original investment has already been pulled for the most part and only about $1200 remains of the seed money. The rest is all profits now so its kinda like found money.
