Random, but for lack of a better thread I thought I'd throw it out there. If you have Fios or a Verizon Wireless unlimited plan, you can use the mobile app to sign up for 12 months of Disney+ for free. I'm not a big Disney person but the Fiancee and nieces/nephews are so I did it last night... pretty simple process.

Droppin in to say that the Amazon Firestick 4k fuckin rules.

Had a Firestick gen 1 for a long time... thing was getting slow as hell & started crashing. Logged into amazon & low and behold they were running a special on Firestick 4k's for 25 bucks (reg 50). Order placed & delivered a few weeks ago and holy shit, this thing works the balls.

Can't take advantage of the 4k on my current TV, but the extra processing power, voice remote and IR transmitter for TV volume are nice.

Okay, I get it now. We're currently in a 300/300 with unlimited plan for $55/no. including all fees & taxes. We can save +/- $10/month going down to 100/100. We currently have two 4K sets, soon to add another. I'll eat the $10 or so just for piece of mind.

The services I'm pretty sure we'll be using will save us around $55/month over cable, but may even get that to $67/month savings.

Surely that $55/mo is an introductory offer. What happens when the introductory period ends?

Expect about 25Mbps per 4k device.

If you have all three running at the same time, at max resolution, you're still looking at 25Mbps of unused bandwidth.

It's your money, but I wouldn't throw $120/year away just for piece of mind when the math doesn't add up. And if you do then need more, just a phone call away to bump it back up.

Yes. I have sling blue, dvr and sports package. $42.53 a month all in. Add orange, it would be 52.xx. Plus you get the free Roku stick.

Incorrect. We've been paying that for over three years now. Not an intro price.

Hulu live is going up from 45 to 55 bucks a month. I might poke around a bit for other options. Generally been happy with it, but sometimes it gets laggy / pausey which I assume is something with their data center / CDN, since I have an FTTH connection.

Same shit with ATT direct, just got an e-mail that my plan will increase to $60/month, which means it has DOUBLED in the 2 years since I first signed up.

I knew this is what would happen, once they got you to switch the $$$ would just go up&up&UP. At this point i'm going back to cable, both Cox (I know, shocking) and FIOS have similar plans/channel lineups to what I have with ATT.Amazingly they will both be cheaper, even with equip rental, than ATT + internet.

If the Disney+ popularity is any indication, I see a future where every network/channel will have their own direct subscription plan and will attempt to price out any company attempting to offer their programming bundled with others.

I had Hulu but killed it for the same reason, even before the cost increase. Went to YouTube TV, and I'm MUCH happier with it. The guide alone is a vast improvement.

Picked up the last new TV to take the next step. Big Shirl couldn't do without television in the bedroom, so we had to add one more before we made the move. Cutting the cord this weekend and giving it a whirl.

Going with YouTubeTV, Netflix, and may add YouTube Premium. We're going to be saving between $50-65/month depending on whether or not we add YouTube Premium.

    Re: Cutting the cord....

My head hurts every time I call Comcast. I called asking for pricing for Internet only packages as their website seems to default to "call Xfinity" when I'm logged in and looking to change my service.

I'm told they have just 1 package ($78 / month + fees for 100Mb). Really, how much are the fees? They say it depends. If there is only one package and I already have an account with them how the fuck can it depend on something else? Short of going to the Comcast store and talking to someone local I'm sure I'll waste another evening speaking with someone at an offshore call center.

Unfortunately Verizon is no better and no other provider are listed for my area. When does Starlink begin.

    Re: Cutting the cord....

Interesting. The last time I called to change my service and they quoted prices as 'fees included'. I was pleasantly surprised to find the number I was told was actually what they charged me the next month.

Is it possible they were giving you the price with the fees included, but they aren't able to break down what part of that $78 is fees, because that is variable and not broken out on their end?

I'm on their website right now, logged in with my existing account, and I'm seeing prices. But looks like it doesn't include any fees at all. Granted, the prices I'm seeing right now make me think $78/mo is too low to be including fees. Also, they claim there's only one option for 'internet only' options offered, and its 2Gbps and $299/mo. 'See, we offer it. No one wants it, no one needs it, but ... its there'. They're also claiming to have zero 'internet and tv' packages.

So cord cutting as of today,, I have Comcast and cable average $230 plus netflicks and get fire with our Amazon membership.
I have a largish roof digital antenna which experimentally got all 4 networks plus others 42 in all.

When I asked last year high speed data was going to be $89 on my phone I get 190 mps wifi computer sometimes sucky

Anyone recommend some recorder for time shifting that can handle that mess, you know I can't miss my early birds

I haven't used any myself, but if you google best OTA DVR, a few come up. It depends on if you're using a streaming service and also what streaming device you use. Different brands incorporate different perks depending. I am looking into the Sling Air TV since I will be going back to sling for a streaming service....

I'm just here to say again YTTV is pretty damn good. Unlimited cloud DVR, no antenna for local channels, price is in line with other providers.

We're a year in with Roku+YTTV+Others. I'm in no danger of going back in spite of the multiple calls per week from DirecTV asking me to come back.

I just got the Roku and trying out the 5 day free trial of YTTV. I really like it. Currently have Directv and have been happy with it however, I will be cutting that cord. I thought I had the slowest broadband speed and would have issue with streaming but to my surprise it’s been all good.

    Re: Cutting the cord....

We're moving back to civilization in a couple of weeks. Is there any meaningful difference between Xfinity and Fios these days? We're looking for internet and TV (and maybe home security); I would say the quality of the interwebs is more important owing to the Mrs being remote until next year.

We had Xfinity in Hanover and were pretty happy, and I had Fios when I lived in Waltham and was pretty happy there too.
