    Next Up, Dana Fuchs

Looks like we'll be heading to Shirley, MA November 9th. Anyone know of any decent places to stay somewhat close to the Bull Run?

The flip side of this would be any local holes to hit once the show's out. We prefer what most would call dives, but we're open to the more classy joints too. Again, looking for the "check this place out" personal experience side of things.

Then by all means hit the Ayer Motor Inn. There isn't much in this area. Ayer/Shirley/Devens used to be more of a happening place when Ft. Devens was still active, there were lots of great redneck/dive bars. They are trying to get away from the rough GI reputation they used to have and upscale. I live in the area but haven't spent a night in any of the establishments. Now if you want local bar/watering hole recommendations

You're going to be limited, 'cause, well, it's Shirley. I live one town over, and well, it's no better. You can hit Carlin's in the center of Ayer, if you like dives...

You can hit the Phoenix or piccolinos in Shirley. They're both dives. There's also the Nashoba club in Ayer, which has pretty good pizza. I'm in Shirley, and there really isn't much around.

    I'm listening...

We'll have to try to hook up after the show if it's not past your bedtime.

Burnham and Falko listed all the cool divey places.... I would have enjoyed meeting up, but I am hosting an engagement party that night for my son.

The Phoenix looks like my type of place. But "No Cover Country Night"? Hell no!

Piccolino's looks good too. You call that a dive? Fuck, man. No entertainment schedule posted, but may be worth a stop.

Nashoba club looks like the place to hit up on our way outta town for sure! Chicken fajita pizza? Forgetaboutit!

Carlin's hardly looks like a dive. Man, you guys set the bar pretty high, huh?

Didn't know that. It's been a while since we went there. In fact, last time I went there it was after our company Christmas Party held at Markoh's across the street. A group of us went over there all dressed up and played pool while drinking PBRs. We were well out of place given the average dress was sweatpants and dirty patriot jackets...
I might go check it out again. thanks.

Well...we never did end up hitting any places suggested although that was the plan. We ended up getting good & primed at the hotel bar. After the show Saturday night we were all pretty banged up so we figured our best bet was to take the shuttle back to the hotel and light up the bar once again. Good enough I suppose, but I really wanted to check a couple of those places out.

Now Gage on the other hand? Yeah, we caught it on the way out of town and I spent WAY to much money there. My intent was just to go check it out and see what all the hub-bub was all about (we're still not so lucky in NH), but once I saw my peeps having all that fun, I put my order in.

Oh, and for what it's worth, the Bull Run is a really cool place to catch a show. Intimate shows with full table service - food & beverage, and the food was pretty damned good. Not just the standard bar fare. They have a few different "function rooms" where they hold the shows and from what I understand, each room has a different menu. I believe they also have a "regular" restaurant somewhere in there too. I think the room we were in only held 200-300 hundred.

Unfortunately, we had only seen YouTube clips of Dana Fuchs and thought we were going to see a hard-ass rockin' show. Nope, not close. Very bluesy, definitely on the mellow side. And she talked WAY too much. I've never been a fan of that. Not what we thought we were getting but still not entirely bad.

The regular restaraunt is on the first floor, accessed off the main road out front, the food is consistently really good. I had dinner there Saturday, but had to split early. They have live music on a lot of Saturday nights.
