Yea, but insulation does more then regulate temperature it also helps sound deaden things. I went from a van with drafts to one fairly sealed up. I usually will only crack a window to keep moisture down if its somewhat warm out, as in over 30-35 degrees.

Also radiant loss is not the same as infiltration loss. Radiant loss doesn't provide any moisture exchange, where infiltration does.

Assuming you could have no radiation loss (you can't) you could control both temperature and humidity with infiltration.

unfortunately electric space/blankets is a no go since I am almost never on shore power. Great for the track that has hookups but being self contained is awesome.

Electric blankets are possible with the smallest of house battery setups. Space heater, NOT. I run my electric blanket without worries. But it has a timed shut off. I wish it didn't actually. I have to press the button if I wake up cold.

Don't have the solar yet but I do have about 280amp hours of house batteries. Used to charge cameras laptop and will be running a few other items in the near future. I guess I could use an electric blanket but I already have various 0 degree sleeping bags a few 30s and a -25 bag. Just make a nest. Works.

Re: DIY toy hauler camper build

This weekend I made my bed. Well, started on it anyway. Busy weekend with friends and family, so not much progress. But progress.

Dad convinced me not to use the mountain of 1 by pine I have in my basement and to go buy poplar instead. Bit of a harder wood than pine and should hold up better. Dad lent me his very nifty Kreg pocket screw contraption and I used that for the joints. A little disappointed at how it came out as I did a poor job selecting the wood to use for the side rails and wound up with two bits that twisted a little. I expected to be able to take the twist out easily with the pocket screw system. Did not work out that way. I now have a mess in one corner I'll have to fill. But otherwise the whole thing is glued and screwed and should be ready for some abuse. I plan to lay down bits of hardboard to keep the mattress from sagging through the slats rather than adding more slats (read: weight) to the setup.

I have a plan for detachable wood legs that will attach with 3/8" dowel. Will be located into the floor of the trailer using dowel as well. There will be no hinges used. This plan is either incredibly dumb or mildly clever. We'll see which.

Deep cycle battery, heat troller and a Gerbings jacket would make cold nights and lack of 120 VAC moot. I hear those jackets are useful for other things like riding motorcycles too.

Last night I installed it. I am not as much of a genius as I often think I am. Going to buy some hinges on the way home and make the setup hinged just like everyone else that does this.
But the bed is damned comfortable. So looking forward to not sleeping on the ground anymore!

Ordering twin sized bed sheets from amazon (who else) last night I noticed there is this thing now called a heated mattress pad. Wholey genius! Someone buy that man a beer.

That's how I use an electric blanket, it goes under the normal mattress pad so that I don't feel the wires. It's much more effective when the heat is under you.

Didn't want to mention it as its something of a trade secret, but electric mattress pad is the hot setup. All the fast guys are running it.

So THIS is why I'm so slow! We have both and i prefer the electric blanket. Think I'll switch and we'll see how I do this weekend. Thanks for the ancient Chinese secret. I won't tell.

No, but what do the rainbow colored strobe ones mean? I thought I might make new friends with my bright display.
