I picked up 10 shares about a month ago. Plan on buying some more when it goes down again. They should have a promising future.

Remember when you lost all that money when the market crashed?

Those weren't losses. Just lines on a computer screen.

All while the "free" analysts reports on the tab fidelity shows you before you commit an order says "very bullish", says every analyst says "sell, dump, do not buy".

I made some decent returns on TSLA a couple years ago. Wanted to snag some more up before the truck reveal, but was gunshy. Wish I had. But hey, no gain is better than a lot of loss.

Same here. When it tanked after the truck reveal I was like good thing I didn’t buy. And it fucking skyrocketed since. Smh

It could also be that the fed has injected hundreds of billions of dollars into the system over that past few months, but I like the nhbubba is a genius story better :-).

Anyone using the "Stash" app? I throw a little in each week. I like the way you can invest in principles and interests rather than a single company or a single fund. I have some cash in "defending america" (defence contractors, aviation companies etc) and "young money" (companies owned by people under 40) and Artificial intelligence companies. Its easy to pull the cash out so it's where I keep my play money (motorcycle money).

LOL. Feels like it today. Seems like the big firms are finally getting around to buying in. Talk of them joining S&P500. Model 3/y china factory ahead of schedule. China EV tax credits approved. Model y release ahead of schedule. Supposedly limited release of Semi truck this year, that's going to cut trucking fuel costs in half. Plus the whole utility battery side, and solar roof. They compare them to a traditional auto maker, and I think it's a mistake. Oh well, hope it dips soon, so I can buy more.

Interesting. I wonder what the expense ratio is like on those.

Sounds like they are offering funds based on industries. That sounds actively managed, which would hint at fees for the funds. Wondering what those fees are based on the return.

    So no minimum investment?
I think the Fidelity 'zero' funds are huge in this way. No minimum balance to open. So it is easy to get started. And few funds have minimum buys, so you can always add "a little" any time.
Also worth noting that mutual funds are by-definition not a "single" anything. They buy equities, bonds, commodities, whatever on your behalf.

Betterment is in the same vein. I actually think that is the biggest selling point of Wealthfront or Betterment is the $0 cost to start an account. (Robinhood too, if you want to day-trade.) Historically you needed >$2000 to get started. And at that tier you were paying the shittiest fee rates. Fidelity has really responded with the zero funds (ie FZROX). I think these zero funds are a direct response to Betterment and the sort.

And fwiw expense ratio or "ER" is what they charge you to invest. They take x% off the top, win or lose. The higher the ER, the more it costs you and the bigger drag on your returns. 0.7-1.0% is typical for a "managed" fund. Historically "cheap" index funds are talking 0.05-0.10%.

When trading stocks you typically pay transaction costs but nothing to hold. Mutual funds are typically free to trade but cost to hold.

    Re: educate me 401-k

I still don't really understand, or fully grasp, how the majority of the people in the country live, and expect to EVER retire. Like not "I own a vineyard in retirement and have a condo in Boca", but "I can live in a shitty apartment and buy food" level retirement.

Just blows my mind over and over again how people can just willingly stick their head in a hole and ignore the harsh reality that's coming just because they think they need a $50k truck or the keeping up with the Jones' house.

FWIW I think 95% of the residents of Exeter NH are 1%'ers. That's the only explanation for that town I can find. Surely they aren't broke-dicks like me just faking it. Right?!
