That’s probably the best approach for our age group - unfortunately I checked. Closest emotion to a kick in the balls I have ever felt.

Going back to this. I know ones traded once per day, the other like a stock. Similar expense ratios. Looking at my vangard ira, the minimum buy in for VTSAX is 3000, where VTI is 1 share. Are most IMF's like that, vs ETF? Is there a good total market IMF on vangaurd that you like?

3 people I know withdrew their cash from the banks. I was like why? Response was among the lines from all (individuals who don’t know each other): during the Great Depression banks went under and people couldn’t get their money.

Sooooo, quite the bounce today. Anyone going to try to make a buck or two speculating? My bet is that this is a blip and we are headed for 16k soon.

IMF = what? Index mutual fund?

VTSAX is one of the gold standards, if not the standard. The $3k minimum is kind of the catch. The 0.04% ER is the big upside.

Other firms have been upping their game in recent years. I happen to know Fidelity as I had a 401k with them once.. and still do a lot of investing with them. In recent years they've dropped their fees and minimums. FSKAX now has a $0 minimum and like 0.014% ER. That's insane. Then they also have their zero funds that have no minimums and no ER at all. Brave new world.

VTSAX and FSKAX are my jam. I do not trade often. I see that as the greatest advantage to ETFs.. so not much help to me. I believe VTI is the gold standard for ETFs.. but I think Fidelity has a similar one too.

    Eeerily quiet in this thread.

Funnily enough, my play fund is right back at exactly where it was 2 weeks ago. I had major gains on 2 stocks that negated the losses on the others.

Now, do I sell high and wait for another drop? I never time these things right

I would, unless you expect those stocks to return to their regular “stable” value quickly.
    But that’s me.

They are both cruise company stocks, so they are still down 65%. I bought when they were down 75%.

Personally, I'm waiting until the market reacts to tomorrow's job report. If it's as bad as expected I should think there will be a big drop in the market. If that happens I am going to watch Friday's futures - if they are up I am going to dump some cash in first thing. If they are down, I am going to see how the market goes, and if it stays down I am going to jump in at the end of the day. I still have about 70% of my 401(K) in cash. Half of that is going to just sit until the virus numbers around the world steady, or until Easter since that's when the Great Pumpkin has decreed all will be well.

The market initially responded favorably today despite a huge unemployment number. Speculation is that this is based on the scope of the deal which appears imminent in DC, and the "whisper" unemployment number which was even higher. Maybe (hopefully) this signals a lessening in daily volatility. I did increase my Apple and Microsoft holdings, thinking that as China comes back on line their manufacturing and revenue will start to ramp up again. It is interesting that nothing has been heard from Warren Buffet - reports are he is sitting on $128B in cash.

We've been at 75%+ factory operation in china for probably 3 weeks now. Had to charter private planes to get it out, though.

Mass production of Apple’s next iPhones (with 5G capabilities) isn’t due to begin until May as their supply chains are still not re-established. Microsoft is experiencing similar impacts as their internal ops in China ramp up. Hopefully China isn't forcing imaginary deadlines that would endanger the reported improvement they're seeing in new cases.

    We've talked about mortgage rates.

    https://www.marketwatch.com/story/mo...ket-2020-03-26

It seems that they have started to drop, but the fact that the Fed has agreed to put "unlimited" funds into the bond market could certainly influence rates.

(side note... I completely understand infinity from a mathematics standpoint... I don't remotely understand infinity from a monetary standpoint. I'm clearly dumb.)

    Re: educate me 401-k

I've been (informally) tracking three institutions; my local bass-ackwards credit union, a bigger regional credit union who usually seems to have its head screwed on correctly, and the commercial gigga-bank that currently holds my note. Local CU has been back down where I expect it to be. Unfortunately they only advertise "mortgage rates" so I fully expect a bait-and-switch when I tell them this is a refi, not a new loan. But the mega-bank is now right down there with them. The regional CU who I want to use is still out of this world though.

There is a 1.375% difference between the ginormo-bank and the regional CU right now on a 15 year note. I just don't understand how the hell that happens.

Also FHA doesn't look pretty right now. They are still in the high 4's for a 30-year.

It just means, really, that they are willing to do whatever it takes to provide liquidity to the market.

So other than the fact that my shocks & other investments are shitting the bed, would I be an idiot if I were to buy a house in the next month or so? Been looking at places.

I can't believe that we are not in for a decline in home value/prices.
But then I know nothing. I'm just a guy that reads NESR too much. Consider that. Always consider that.

As I re-read this I felt a slight tap in the back of my head. I think it was my parents from 1983 smacking me in the back of the head with their 12% rate.
