    Finally taking the plunge

After 7 years and nearly 50k down the toilet with renting I am FINALLY getting a house

I am glad the housing market is in the shitter and people are dying to sell their houses.

The only thing that sucks is its in Spenca (15 min west of Woosta) and the only highway is Rt. 9 at 40MPH

Also it means I'm 5 mins up the road from TuT

It needs work but for 1500SQ Ft with a detached garage and a big shed I will take it and run

    Re: Finally taking the plunge

    Thanks everyone, I'm definatly pumped.

Joel you make it seem like I'm an alcoholic

Chuck I can actually picture you driving threw Woosta flipping my house off. Your wife next you thinking your nuts

Also I have lived in Woosta my whole life, so I already was central mass

And yea I still need to sell my Acura to make this a bit easier on me financially easier...AKA more gas, tires, and oil for the bike

Pics will be up this week. It needs some TLC but its a start.

    Re: Finally taking the plunge

I just have to say I am wiped out

The house has a serious mold problem that I have been taking care of.

So far I have gutted the kitchen and installed all green board (mold tough) behind the counter. Replaced most of the sub floor. And upgraded the pluming.

This weekend I did the bathroom. Gutted, blue board and green board, new drain for the toilet, new cold water line to the toilet.

Cleaned the mold trap basement had to replace all the insulation and plastic.

Clean/mold removal on all the windows and exterior of the house. The use mold blocker EVERYWHERE.

I have pix but I have way to many and need to upload them to photo bucket but just don't feel like it now.

Joel I think I might have your sister beat with this shit hole.

I just keep telling my self it will all be worth it in a few years when I turn it around for about 100k

    Re: Finally taking the plunge

Hey man that sux about the mold. I am partially in the buisness of dealing with the mold and hopefully you got all the mold. If not you could be looking at serious problems down the road.

Just a piece of advice. In a bathroom behind the shower/tub you should use ALL cement board (durarock). It doesnt break down when it gets wet and cementitious products dont grow mold very well.

    Just FYI.

    Re: Finally taking the plunge

Well I wish I could upload pics but my cpu shit the bed about a month ago and now I'm just using my pda. So if anyone has a old cpu they want to sell me on the cheap, lemme know

So I will write a bit of an update since I keep getting PMs

So in 6 weeks I replaced most of the plumbing, sheetrock in the kitchen and bathroom. Tore all the insulation out of the floor from the basement and had mold abate the whole thing

Dealing with mold SUCKS. It is very involved, expensive, and tough to do it right.

I had carpenter ants in the sill under the wash room floor. The washer hookup was leaking and rotted the floor, walls, joists, and sill. Making it a nice home for the ants.

I still need to replace all the windows, finish painting, do various electrical jobs (go figure I'm an electrician and that's the one thing I haven't reallh touched lol) leval the kitchen and bathroom floors, paint or sde the house, and put a new roof on in the next couple years. Also repave the driveway, put a garage door on, and trim some trees so I can get some sun to the house since one side gets no sun and has mose on the roof.

The plus side is I have a shitload of wood to burn from all the walls and floors I had to replace.

It was a very taxing several weeks since I just started going back to the gym a week before I started all this work. Plus 95% of the work done was by me and the wife. But hey I'm down 35lbs so my leathers fit for the first ttd of the year. And I am living in a house for the first time in my life

I also plan on having a ride/cookout this summer. I'm sure the house will still look like shit, but all work and no play is no way to live life.

Don't be silly. The cf is on the floors and roof, not the toilet seat!

    How's your receading hair line?

    Re: Finally taking the plunge

Damn, you already did the plumbing. I was going to offer to rape...I mean do it for a small price

If you need someone to fix the plumbing you messed up let me know. I'll make sure to take pics of it before I rip it out. Electricians doing plumbing always makes me laugh.

But seriously, good luck with the house. You bought at the right time.
