I've run my home on diesel before

done it a few time myself, there was one winter, a dozen or so years ago, and prices were going sky high, at least a buck more than they are now, there was a local gas station that had K-1 pump, and still selling it at $1.99. I was buying K-1 cheaper than I could get #2 delivered, I'd go down there with 6 5gal cans and get 30 gals at a time, others were doing the same

a couple times, cause I am not on regular delivery, I have run out, of course, always on a -20° night. We fill up in summer, and get 100 gal in late Feb/early Mar, depending how much wood we burn, as we get older, less wood, and more oil

A few healthcare anecdotes:

I didn't go to the doctor for 7 years because I had a crappy, expensive plan.
I finally got a good plan. Combined with a One Medical subscription that is convenient and easy to use - I actually go to the doctor now.
My dental plan is pretty standard and after getting a root canal last January, I had to hold off on any dental work for the rest of the year. I can now start getting some again until I burn through my max coverage.

I dont need a nest or anything. My settings sit at 52 and is never touched. A smart thermostat is just tossing money away. I cant go lower because my pipes could freeze and i wont go higher because i dont need too. My woodstove does all the heating.

I just like to know where im at with everything. A boiler over running is signs of issues if im not timing i may not know that i have a problem. Its all about knowledge. Thats why i track all my power too. You got to know where your at to find out where to go.

Forgive me for veering back to an off topic topic. Here's what the data from my system looks like. I can see easily that it is more efficient to lower the temp at night. I lot less run burn time and the recovery is not significant enough to offset it.

my grandma turned her heat down to 50° once, when she went to FL for 3 weeks, came back to a basement full of water and overflowing out the windows, 50° upstairs, was not enuf to keep the basement from freezing and splitting pipes, town water, it just kept flowing even after all the electrical, & furnace were underwater

54 worked for us even when the temps were 20 degrees in November on an empty vacant home. Good insulation though and 3 zone heating.

If really concerned the good ol - let a couple of faucets drip water also works

When I lived in Maine I kept my house at 68 and it was very warm inside the basement. I keep the new place in Waltham at 70 and the basement is quite cold...
