Later, 2000+ Jag V8 had better timing chain tensioners that dont fail and muck up the engine.
They really are elegant coupes. The drop tops remind me of Norwell/Scituate/Duxbury milfs

Appears the title of this thread should have been “Fun summer Golf for less than $6,000.” We’ve been bamboozled.

The last VAG we owned was a 2000 Golf and it didn’t have electrical problems. So they don’t all have electrical issues. This made us 1-4-0.

We sold it quickly for asking price, with the best story ever. The prospective owner, a lawyer from Cambridge, literally drove it 200 yards before agreeing to pay the asking price, if we could deliver it to his house. As he was walking distance from the Red Line, no problem.

He and his wife owned a nearly identical red Golf. While she was away for the weekend, he crashed it down on the Cape. Totalled. Neither he nor the female passenger were injured.....

As it turned out, he would have paid any price to get a red Golf back in the driveway before his wife got home. Not sure how he explained the new sunroof!

There was something about that car that never sat right with me. The 370 was much nicer and with character I think (probably above budget). The infitini versions (I think G35/37) were pretty damn nice too (certainly above budget)

How about a 98 Civic EK hatch with blue underglow and a built B18C1?

The 370Z and G37s were way too curvy to me. The 350Z and G35 was my style.

I had an M6 of the same chassis. That engine is expensive, no wonder it's called the $38.
I so had an E34 535 with the m30 and a 5 speed. That car was fun. Engine never needed anything

Because Z3's looks classic and age well. Z4's look like garbage.

    Everything M is expensive

I know a guy who still tracks an E28 535 with a stick and the M30. Not as much fun as an E30 on track but that would be a great daily driver. The shark would be a great cruising car and the design is timeless.

I assume you already went down the rabbit hole with the TRX tires/wheels and the self leveling in the rear so it won't be a surprise.

Place on the way home just pulled out an older XJS coupe with v12. That was a cool car. Provides great exercise as well.

When you're always pushing it off the road?

Another great example of a timeless design though.

    Weren't most Jag motors?

They only started getting "reliable" with the AJ V8, which was heavily influenced by Ford at that point.

They only broke like half the time. The other half was electrical issues.

Lol. Had an uncle with an older XJ6. It swallowed a valve at 20k miles. He couldn't keep a battery in it for more than a few months either. Car was basically a.paperweight.
