Actually, the LS6 conversions only add about 100lbs total to the entire package, retain the near perfect balance, and give you 556hp. So there's that. Communist.

With the mods mine has, it should put me right in the 210hp-230hp range. It's fun with that. More than doubling the power would be... uh... interesting.

"About 100lbs" is a lot in the wrong place. I have to assume the motor is going to sit up a lot higher too. But yeah, 556hp is pretty ridiculous. Just put a 100 pound bag of concrete or put the beefiest possible rear end in the back to balance it out at that point.

I'm also curious - it might be "about 100lbs" more that stock, but I would have to assume it requires a lot of weight reduction in the engine bay compartment as you put it the LS motor. What if you compare a LS swap with a stock motor that has also had a similar level of engine bay weight reduction. And you say "about 100lbs." I understand you probably don't know for sure, but if its 149 rounded down to 100 to try to sell the swap kits or to rationalize a purchase...well, 150lbs is even more to have in the wrong place than 100lbs.

I know the 350s and 302s can be built to have a lot of HP, but I still think back to high school when every car that had one of those motors was so damn slow and so damn heavy. Its amazing how little horsepower they got out of such big motors back then. '

Inherently, a v8 swap just seems to go against what people love about Miatas.

Remember, the Miata motor is NOT light. It's a slug of iron. Where a modern LS is aluminum.

So I looked it up to be sure I was on top of it, and yes, it's more than 100lbs. Closer to 200 but 1/3 of that is over the rear wheels.

V8 Conversions require the motor, modified oil pan, some tunnel work, rear end, trans, rear axles, cooling, exhaust, etc. Plus a subframe and extra bracing here and there.
LS swaps seem to be the current hotness for just about everything these days.

Where do so many LS motors and running gear come from?

The LS motor variants are basically everything GM for the past few decades.

The performance versions like in the Corvette and the CTS-V are aluminum block I believe.
I also think the fwd Impala SS is aluminum too but I could be wrong

That's the beauty of it. You can do anything from mild to wild. Take a 6.2 from a Silverado and stuff it in a small car and you can have bone stock motor reliability, cheap (relatively speaking) acquisition cost and a crazy hp/weight ratio.

I mean you can get pretty silly power for cheap out of a 302 with a blower or turbskis too.

It's close. I don't think I'd take any less than 45k for it right now.

An Aero kit car sold on Bring A Trailer for 20k with a stolen/salvage/wreck history.
