    HA HA NOMAR!!

Well, the good news is that Nomar has a handle on
    his market value now LOL!

It was a given that he'd sign a one-year contract, so
that he can play the free-agent game next year, but I'm
totally amazed that he only got 8 mil....good old supply
    and demand in action!

    HA HA NOMAR!!

The 'market' is flooded with quality infielders this year as is most farm systems. Nomar's biggest problem is that he's a princess...

I'd seriously reevaluate my agent's status though if I were him. THEY'RE usually the driving force behind these outrageous contracts. Bastards...

$8 million to "work" a maximum of 180 days or so this year is still pretty darn good, especially when "work" is playing a kids game.

Hell and we know Nomar, it is doubtful he would play anwhere near the full season without trying to go on the DL.

    Kid's game?

It's a business, from top to bottom, that generates millions
of dollars a year....$8 mil looks good to you or me, but he
could have had twice that if he/his agent had half a brain.

And as far as Nomar doggin' it on the DL next year? Ain't gonna
happen unless he is seriously hurt....with free agency a year
away he has EVERYTHING to prove next season.

    HA HA NOMAR!!

the one year deal was pretty smart though. All he needs to do is have a typical Nomar year .300+AVG 20+HR 100+RBI and he will cash in with a nice deal after this coming season.

As far as him not going on the DL because he is in a contract year, how do you explain last year?

Nope, he'll be on the DL for as long as he can swing it. Nomar was wunna my all time favorite players. But I've learned a lot since the trade rumors even started, and I'm thoroughly disgusted that I once held him in such high regard...

He could be wunna the all time greats. But I have a feeling he's gonna bounce around from team to team, signing these short term contracts and quickly become a 'coulda been'...

pissy little bitch being offended by the state of his contract
    negotiations?

Old guy, your original point was he wont go on the DL becuase he needs to prove himself in a contract year. What has changed? He still needs to prove himself in a contract year.

Maybe I'm just not reading it right. But I don't understand the question. I know it's not aimed at me, just trying to understand it...

    HA HA NOMAR!!

im not sure it can be worded any different.

Old guy said that Nomar wont go on the DL this year because he needs to prove himself to get a better contract next season. All Im saying is, that was the case last year as well. Nothing has changed, and he went on the DL last year.

eh, i think it was because he was sick of Boston & it showed.... when he wasn't on the DL he was doin good enough to show other teams he was still in good form.

    woo! MacGuyver's on tv!

    HA HA NOMAR!!

I guess I might have been less than clear with that
    reply....let me try to clarify:

First, I do think Nomar was hurt last Spring, but I believe
that his attitude took a dive when he couldn't get a
satisfactory (to him) contract extension done. Yes, it was a
contract year, but it wasn't "THE" Contract Year...in other
words, his free-agency year. I think Nomar realized that he
was gonna be somewhere else next year, because he
wasn't willing to sign the extension, and the front office
didn't seem inclined to raise the ante. So Nomar was going
to make sure he's in top shape for the 2005 season...if that
means spending time on the DL in '04, so be it. He still has
2005 to put together a career-type year IF he's healthy and
plays to his potential, and he's then golden going into free
agency at the end of the 2005 season.

The point I was trying to make was that he'll most likely
be willing to play hurt to a greater degree next year, whereas
this year he didn't have much to lose (and potentially a lot
to gain by getting healthy) by spending that time on the DL.
If he couldn't sign a multiyear extension with the Sox, he knew
he'd be signing somewhere else on a one year deal, just
killing time until he's eligible for free agency.

ok, I see what you are saying. I thought you were im0plying that he was healthy, but still on the DL. Because if that were the case, I would say he only hurt himself. I gotcha now
