    Happy labor day.

    Happy labor day everyone.
In honor of labor day tell us what u do to afford your two wheel addiction.
I work in a waste water treatment facility (yes a shit plant).
I'm one of the mechanics on staff.
Some days are good. Like today all I gotta do is drive around checking stations.

So it must be pronounced John poo poo... haha, jk

I'm a product engineer for an aerospace bearing mfr. Most of my projects are helicopter related, so for example I work on the bearings and links that control the pitch of the rotor blades. Pretty neat stuff. Comes with plenty of paperwork and document review, but the engineering side is the fun part.

I'm Director of Production Printing for a digital marketing company, which in reality means I service and repair high speed digital printing presses. It pays the bills and it is interesting and busy enough that the workday flies by mostly.

I'm self-employed, as a freelance consulting engineer. I work by the project, on quality, validation, and process engineering in the medical technology industries -- pharmaceuticals, biotech, and medical devices.

So mainly, if a company is building or renovating a medical production facility, I help ensure that everything is done right and correctly, and that the FDA will approve the results.
Or if the company has gotten into some trouble with the FDA or another regulatory agency, that their corrective actions will be suitable, effective, and approvable, so that they can get back into production with products of proper quality.

So, you walk a fine line between hating govt bureaucracy and letting it put money in your wallet?
I was really trying to think of a way to phrase this so it didn't sound totally confrontational and dickish, but that was the best I could do.

    Re: Happy labor day.

I own a land use consulting firm, I am personally licensed as a land surveyor, certified as a wetland scientist, and permitted as a designer of subsurface wastewater disposal (septic) systems. The bulk of our work is shoreland & wetland impact permitting, septic system designs, boundary surveys. We also do subdivisions, site plan applications. Been doin this type of work for 45 years. Grandfathered in on my septic design and wetland science stamps, and passed test and got the LS stamp 35 years ago

I'm working on a Plan B exit strategy, originally my plan to retire was 3 years ago, but the economy of 2009-2014 interfered with that

I couldn't formulate actual words I guess, lol..

Getting burned out is the worst. Having good clients/projects is amazing when it all comes together but I've had to change it up a lot over the years.

What the hell is vacation time?

    Exactly lol.

I'm burned out on being burned out honestly. I made a conscious effort to take a ton of time off in the next year though. Hunting in colorado next week, two cruises in 2018, and possibly more. Hopefully that helps.

sounds like me getting the Wetlands Bureau off my client's back after wetland or shoreland rule violations are discovered or in some cases, just alleged. It's the new way to harass your neighbor, turn em in for a wetland violation, they have to respond at the expense of hiring someone like myself, sometimes to prove that wetlands are and have been non existent. on the property. Or in one case, where a wetland fill actually did occur, that the fill was in Maine, were small fills are permitted without a permit, My client got to thumb his nose at the NH Wetlands Bureau, where the primary use of his property is in NH

it was long enuf to spend a day in the Ozarks exploring the twisties, ride 1500 miles there on a Saturday, exploring 600 miles of awesome twisties on Sunday, then 2000 miles over the next 2 days to get back to work in NH

My official title is a CNC Swiss screw machine mechanic, but I mostly design tooling and processes for the CNC and cam screw machines. It's pretty cool to see something go from a print to in your hand after designing everything for it.

No fine lines there. My job involves helping productive (or potentially productive) companies cope with government bureaucracy in order to be allowed to make good products that help people.
Why do you think I have such contempt for bureaucracies? I am far too familiar with them, and how long it takes to get through them, and how many people die waiting for the bureaucracy to decide they are allowed to buy cures or treatments for what ails them.
(NB: It's not the government bureaucracies that I work for, or that put any money in my wallet.)
