Harbor Freight Tools recalls 173,000 trailer tires | Rubber and Plastics News

WASHINGTON—Discount tool retailer Harbor Freight Tools is recalling 173,557 Innova Ultra Runner and Far East brand replacement trailer utility tires, which were sold mounted on replacement trailer rims.

The recall covers Innova Ultra Runner tires in sizes 5.3x12 and 4.80/4.00x12 (manufactured between Jan. 1, 2014, and Sept. 20, 2017) and Far East tires in size 4.80/4.00x12 (produced between Jan. 1, 2014, and Dec. 31, 2016), Harbor Freight Tools said.
Apparently all trailers and wheels have been pulled off their site.

Still no trailers on sale at HF, interesting to see what the follow On is.

Paint has been outside a couple months and seems to be holding up well, so

This just in. Driving up 89 when a guy pulls up alongside, beeps, and points back at the Trailer.

The bracket holding the l light and license plate broke off and was sliding along the ground. Must have just happened as there is little wear.

    Gotta find ones more rugged.

Can the lights be mounted closer to the Trailer frame?

When to Home Depot and bought two welded steel brackets like these. Gotta mount them up as a snowmobile has to go in for service.

    Heavy Duty shelf bracket

Probably going to upgrade as the snow machines tow well but are a hassle to load.

Test fit and looks like a good upgrade. Metal bracket extends width of lens to protect it. Used one original bracket hole and drilled another. Top of lamp is about 1/4” below load height.

For those that buy garbage from that store, you may want to look into the harbor freight trailer tire recall.

Those brackets in mine were super rusty, I lightly bumped into one the other day and it snapped the light off. I'll probably replace with those shelf brackets too, thanks.

    Posted above.

Just got the recall letter. The 4.8x12 tires will be in stores 12/18/17 and the 5.3” 1/3/18. Tires are no charge but they are not paying for the mounting. We bought a spare for good measure but will change them before it warms up.

This little trailer is so light and handy that we may keep it even if we get a larger one.

Don’t be a pussy. Wheelie that sled on there while alternating between peace sign and middle finger towards the camera with the free hand.

If I could have gotten it started.... Had to load it with the tractor. My friends used it end of last season and kindly filled the fuel tank with gas containing Ethanol.

Re: Harbor Freight Trailer Containment Thread

    I had the fold up 4x8. I think I used 3/4 plywood..
    Hooks in all 4 corners..
The wiring harness that comes with it FAILS because it's not long enough to allow for folding..
The only issue I had was the bearings/hubs.. cheap crap but you can get entire replacement hubs for cheap so it's good to have a 2nd set. That way you can swap them out for maintenance

Here is the recall letter received . Front.

    Back

Supposedly they are going to start selling them again once they’ve solved the Tire and light problem. For what Northern Tool sells them for not sure it’s a good value, though they do make a 5’ wide model that’s supposed to be bonus for carrying two bikes.

Really like the Mission open motorcycle trailers, but they are $3-4,000 and we couldn’t easily store it inside.

You can definitely fit two bikes on the HF 4x8. I bolted a 6' piece of angle iron to the front of my HF trailer, put an eye hook on either end and one in the middle, staggered my HF chocks (one about 1' back from the other), and I had no issues carrying two bikes. Had a similar setup once I got two Pitbull TRS.

Update, Per this you bring the wheel/Tire assembly and they will mount them. That’s good since we have a spare as well.

Just checked mine.... different tire manufacturer, thankfully. So it's not a slam dunk that you need to bring your wheels back.

Wonder how many different manufacturers they've used over the years....

Walked into the Medford store with the rims and they swapped them for new rims with Carlisle Sport Trail LH 5.30 x 12. Signed a receipt and out the door in 5 minutes.

Load Range C, 1,050 lbs at 90psi. LRB are rated 840 @ 50 psi so you definitely need to keep these things pumped up. Catalog says 87mph and rims no longer have 55mph sticker.

Medford has a folding trailer in their store. Didn’t look to see what the deal is. Still not on website.

Northern Tool has a 5x8 aluminum or steel. Is aluminum worth it? It’s somewhat lighter, possibly more corrosion resistant, possibly not as strong and harder to repair.
