I'll dig out my tax bill when I get home and let you know. I can't remember the current rate off-hand.

    Re: Holden, MA ??

    Congrats on your purchase.

I know it's too late to hear it, but my take on Holden goes back about 10 years when I had a business there. I used to own a photo kiosk (Fotomat-style thing) that is now (or recently was) a donut shop takeout stop.

When I went to Holden Town Hall to get a sign permit for the sign I inherited from the P.O., I told the "code enforcement officer" that I want to change the name of the business on it, paint it. Henry C, the CEO, told me "the only thing you can change on that sign is it's location...to the dump", as he polished his new town-issued .357 Magnum Smith & Wesson. I had one of two remaining signs that were above the roofline of the building (as if there is anyplace else to put it on an 8/12 shack.) Orbit Pizza has/had the other.

That town makes doing business there a real bitch. It took and act of Congress and almost 20 YEARS of fighting for the Mobil station uptown to be able to put up the structure over the pumps. He was told 'it'll ruin the character of our town', and denied a permit over and over again. McDonalds, even with their bigbucks lawyers could only get a tiny sign, no Golden Arches.

With the State Police barracks in town, it seems the town cops are always out to prove something. Like, they can be bigger pricks than the staties. And they are. Watch out anywhere around Route 31 north from Main Street. It's posted at 25 or 30 all they way up & down the long steep hill, and they'll nail you with moving radar anytime. They also like to camp out over on Manning Street, a convenient cut-over to RT140 and/or I-190.

All things considered, I avoid Holden and the stuck-up asses in it as much as possible. Oops...I didn't mean YOU.

    Re: Holden, MA ??

I have heard that the local law enforcement is "aggressive"
I try not to make bad decisions in my home town.

I grew up in Amherst, NH where our house had to have real wooden shingles on the roof, only white christmas lights and there were no neon signs allowed in the town center. As a business owner myself I can imagine how much that must have pissed you off. Luckily I will not be running any of my businesses in Holden.

Thank you for the shortcut heads up on Manning street.

Yeah, we are technically in Jefferson....right at the Holden Hills Country Club.
The big building up on the hill.

So, yes...you will be seeing me around.

I've played, although very poorly, at HHCC once or twice. Riding is definitely more my thing.

I'll send you a PM when I plan on riding... that's if this white stuff ever stop falling and they can sweep the sand off of the streets. I think that I'll probably be riding a little by the end of the month.

If you don't mind another neighbor joining the fun, my street/track bike will be back to street duty only after the end of the month.

Congrats on the new house dude!!! Best of luck with it. Get on the Board so they don't fuck with your money when the place needs a new roof or other shit down the road. Then again, maybe you won't be there for that long.

    Regardless, Mazel Tov!!
