With a wall safe ( in between the studs) how would one hang a gun vertically so it wont fall out?

Attach Felt/Velcro to the back and use pouches. Just like the ones made to hang them on the doors of a safe

Re: input for gun safe ( with toddler in the house)

so we decided to go with this
Amazon.com : Barska Biometric Wall Safe : Gun Safes : Home Improvement
I "tested" it and worked 100% of the time

Decide to mount the pistol with this

Amazon.com : Tac-Mag Gun Magnet with 25 lb Rating : Sports & Outdoors. nto great. Easy to mount but so hard to pull off the magnet. I wind up hitting the front sight each time or rubbing hte barrel too much or I habe to pull with so much force I wind up hitting a side of the safe..it is not silent
So now searching how to mount the pistol Worse comes to worse I can screw in a holster.

What's everyone using for larger safes, like 60"H x 30"W -ish size? Seems like there are two kinds, cheap imports and more expensive USA-made ones. Then beyond that it's whatever fire protection and extra features you want. Am I missing anything? I don't need anything super fancy, but I think I'd like an electric plug pass through. Any brands to stay away from? Thanks.

I would look at https://www.easternsecuritysafe.com/ in Mendon. If you can wait until next Summer they do an annual tent sale and there are some good deals to be had.

I have these two. The larger one (grey) is nicer in almost every aspect but both I'm happy with. The larger one came wired with lights while the smaller one did have a hole drilled in the back and I wired it myself. They are a bit pricey with the Black one being about 1000 and the grey one I got with a group buy but its current closest which is the sportman25 is for 1500. Mine is the deluxe version which is with the lights and such.

How much time are you looking to buy yourself before someone can gain unauthorized entry?

Something like this https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pr...ire-rated-safe is a fraction of the cost of the real safes. Is the extra time worth the extra money for your situation?

Personally I went with no. I have a slightly smaller one then what I linked to and it's been fine for years at this point.

Edit.... fucking link doesn't work right. It's the Cannon 40 gun safe. It's $599.99 and offers free delivery right now. It's heavy, so that's worth quite a bit right there.

thanks for reviving this thread. I really should get a safe. Fire protection is my # 1 reason, and that I have acquired too many to lean against the wall behind the door of the bedroom closet

I was reminded this past summer doing work for a client whose home had burned, he had 28 guns that became molten lumps, he estimated $50k

I currently have 7 long guns, but have at least 1 more on my wish list (O/U 12ga 30" barrel goose gun), and 3 fly rods, with 2-3 on the wish list there, 3 handguns (not little ones) fly reels spools & line

I'd like a safe that doesn't stack em in so that I have to move guns to get at one in the back, a front row, and staggered back row, or just a 6ft tall run rack

I got a bit of ammo too, is there such a thing as a fireproof ammo chest, to keep a fire down to just a fire, and not a neighborhood explosion ?

do you not trust yourself to educate your own children ?
Ha... I was very educated about guns growing up. Shot with my father at a young age, had the safety videos. Skee shooting with a state trooper friend of my parents when I was a kid.

All of the training and discipline from my parents didn't stop us from having bb and pellet gun fights in the backyard after school. It wasn't until I shot my friend through the bushes in the eye that we decided to wear safety glasses.

I swore there was a banner that said free delivery. I see TSS on sale with free delivery all the time. Follow me guns and gear on Facebook and he'll link to the different specials as they come up.

Oddly enough Eastern Security Safe is having a black Friday sale this month Nov 29th and 30th at their Mendon and West Springfield locations. It's at least worth checking out.

Re: input for gun safe ( with toddler in the house)

Three year update: still happy with ShotLock, which has a Simplex mechanical lock. I asked my wife what pass code she would never forget and used that. We mount it behind a bedroom door and no one even notices it. Have a strip of luminous tape to help locate the buttons. Also have some blank rounds to practice the whole drill.

They now make products for handguns, horizontal and vertical mount, Simplex and electronic.

FWIW, I ended up with a Hornady AR locker that uses RFID keytags or a number pad. It's fairly quick access, but I still don't think I'd be able to realistically access anything if someone is already in the house. If someone is kicking at the door, or if they break into the basement, maybe.

yea it all depends on the situation and the layout i'd imagine...if i'm on the first floor or in my basement and the gun is on the second floor in a safe and someone comes through the door it would not be ideal unless i'm carrying in my house all the time which is uncomfortable and somewhat paranoid...just nerves alone would be tough in that type of situation while trying to unlock something fast...but add on security cameras, an alarm system and 2 pitbulls and i may have a chance...also hid a bunch of old aluminum tee ball bats around the house...i'm thinking i may do the same with some pepper spray...but having a toddler i need to think hard about those hide locations

I ended up getting a Liberty Revere 30 gun safe at Tractor Supply. It's on sale for $580. For $50 more I opted for the manual lock. The lame part is that they charge the same amount to ship it to a store as they do to my place. I was hoping to ship to store for free and just pick it up myself.

Honestly, that's pretty much what I do... Unless i'm in my pajamas or something, it's generally on me. My belt & holster setup is pretty comfortable and I don't think it's being paranoid, I just see it as maintaining positive control & having it handy should I ever need it.

It's one of those things that.... the chances of me ever needing it are so incredibly minuscule that I'm tempted to leave it in the safe. But if something happens where I want it, I'll want it IMMEDIATELY... like, FUCKIN YESTERDAY... so the last thing I want to do is go running through the house to find something that's either locked in a safe or hidden.

I understand the concern with toddlers... I really do. I'm not a dad but I understand. And if it's enough that you don't want to carry around them I understand. But if you take reasonable precautions... if it's concealed, in a good IWB holster, with reasonable over garments (perhaps tucked in over it), then it should be out of sight, incapable of accidental discharge and totally inaccessible to a toddler.

But you should still get a couple of doggos
