    Jumper Cables

I know what I want when I can touch and feel, but haven't found what I want in stock locally

I have decent set, 0 ga fine stranded copper cable, parrot clamps, 16' stretched. One of my clamps came off so I have to resolder the terminal that bolts to the clamp. I will be repairing them but I got thinking I really want a longer set, 25' or longer, even if I have to go up to 00 cable. 16' just isn't long enuf unless you can almost part nose to nose

I have searched online and found what claims to be what I want, but then I read reviews and don't know what to believe. I really want to hear a review from a more known entity before I spend what I believe will cost $100+

Or should I just order a $200 set thru NAPA

no thanks, even though I've seen them work more times than not, 3 times in the past week, I have personally witness a fail that was saved with jumper cables

One fail was saved with my broken clamp set and a pair of vice grips

You’ve seen lithium ion packs fail three times in the last week?

it has been -15į, 2, my son was moving some cars for snow removal, don't know how long they been sitting, he ended up going for his trusty jumper cables. The other was my Jeep that hasn't been started in 4 ? months, one of my employs had one in his car, It turned it over, and we tried repeatedly, just not turning fast enough, hook up my jumper cables to my chevy truck, it cranked at noticeably quicker speed and vroom it went

it's not that the lithium battery doesn't have the energy, of all the ones I have seen, they have 6ga or 4 ga at best, cable coming out of the battery to the clamps, and that don't work any better than cheesey 6ga or 4 ga jumper cables, sure it'll start a daily driver that isn't having running issues, but no go to something that hasn't run in a while and the past 2 weeks of sitting has been below zero nights, and may not be the best running engine, and of course, stale gas. Maybe there are some out there with 2ga or 0ga cables, I ain't seen em

    Re: Jumper Cables

I am very skeptical about wire gauge claims of any cables purchased online. There are a lot of outright lies out there. I can't imagine spending that much money on cables though, I've never had any issues using 50ish dollar cables and have a set of them in all 5 of the cars/SUVs/trucks in my family stable.

    Re: Jumper Cables

If you have a Lithium Jump Battery donít leave it in your car in the cold. If you need to do that, buy an AGM pack. We have a Clore JNC660, course it weighs 9-1/2 lbs versus 10 ounces.

Most people give up too early with Lithium jump packs. You might have to leave it connected for 30-120 seconds before the vehicle will start: those smaller cables canít flow current like larger gauge wire. Our old boat had two batteries and we had to wait five minutes.

As to cold, we have an AntiGravity XP10 but recently purchased an XP1 as it is small enough to keep in an interior coat pocket for early season camping and cranking the snowmobiles.

As to jumper cables, we bought a 2 ga copper 20í set from Northern Tool with a credit recently, price was $70. They work fine, but the exact model has been discontinued and the replacement seems to be $80.

that is the problem, Lithium jump packs only work, if the vehicle being started has a battery that will accept a charge over a time period, a jumper cable (of heavy enuf gauge) will start the vehicle regardless, you could pull the bad battery entirely and hook the clamps to the vehicles battery cables

Dihard Platinum ones work pretty good also. My set were stolen about 8 years ago and never really bought another good set

I just used my $16 4g 20’ cables Monday to start my wife’s car. Those worked just fine for me and that car hadn’t been started since Friday. Maybe I’m just not over thinking it.

    Re: Jumper Cables

2 sets of #1 or #2 will give you more overall conductor capacity (the 2-#2 is very close to 2/0 in cross section, 2-#1 is closer to 3/0) as well as give you more versatility.

2 sets will take up more space, as if nothing else, you have more clamps.

    Re: Jumper Cables

I actually just bought a set from Target when on clearance and they do everything I need LOL

seems like you have a more heavy duty need for them though...I just jump start my bike from my truck or *maybe* another car in a parking lot...and yes tip to tip is the only way with 16' cables

Wire is sized to conduct a given amount of ampacity, there is nothing wrong with using properly sized aluminum conductors. There is nothing wrong with copper clad aluminum. If your so damn concerned about using the most conductive metal, shut up and go buy some silver cables.
