    Re: Lawn Tractors

In an ideal world I would own a stand behind zero turn for mowing and have an oversized man-toy to handle everything else. Unfortunately we can't make that work right now, so the residential grade cub cadet was the way it went. That said, I mowed with it for the first time last night and you can count me impressed. I haven't driven a foot controlled hydrostatic yet and damn it's awesome! I have *TONS* of obstacles on my two acres in the form rocks sticking up 3-6 inches. Being able to come in hot, roll off the throttle and change direction quickly made dealing with those things much easier. Also very impressed with the turning radius. It's no zero turn but I can whip it around and get it back on track in a very short space. Plenty of cutting power, it has a 24 horse Kohler pushing a 50" deck and I ran it through grass as tall at 8" last night without issue.

The thing about a zero turn is you don't want to zero turn with them. They will pivot on one tire, but that tire becomes a shovel if you do that. I had to explain that to my son for the first 17 times he mowed with it.

Indeed. My nextdoor neighbor in NC was a landscaper that had a 52" Scag with a 26 horse Kawi, I used it every time I cut my grass. That thing was an absolute beast. I did manage to push up a few nice ruts before I figured out the whole pivot thing though...

Started out with box store Deere, but i have some hills which kill their crappier non rebuildable hydro transmissions Made the move to an X500 and wow...thing is a beast. So much quieter and sure footed too.

ah, the handle/operation part is not something i was worried about. i just used the mount for the shoot with pin/clip through it.
