    Need a little help

    OK Guys...
My Wife Blew the timing Belt in her 1995 Escort Wagon.
Got the 1.9 liter single overhead cam in it.

Does anyone have a Chilton's Manual or a reference to how the timing marks are arranged when I put this thing back together?
Just wondering, cause it would save me a couple of bucks, if I don't have to go out and buy a gosh dern manual for the thing...

    any help appreciated!

    Thanks..
    Mark

    Need a little help

How high was engine revved when timing belt broke?

I believe those engines are the "inteference" type: At different points in time the valves and pistons occupy same space. At least that's how it was explained to me by a guy whose Escort's timing belt broke at 75MPH; said he had damaged valve stems from the engine spinning down in a chaotic order of valves opening while pistons hit TDC and slammed 'em. However, maybe they're all like that, I dunno. Got a I-6 diesel now so that's where my time for motor-study goes when not learning more about my new V-Twin.

At any rate, judging from your tech posts you probably already know all that...

Unfortunately, I don't have or know anybody with a tech-manual for the Escort so I can't help you with that.

Good luck with it and hope it ain't bad.

We are lucky for this engine,
    It's a spinner!
No interference....top end is fine, unlike my Turbo Mitsubishi I had.
Funny, My wife put that one to death too!
    Thanks for the help...

What's the difference between a interference type and non-interference type?

Do the valves get pushed down into the head when they open on an interference type or something, and other engines they get lifted?

    Thanks,
    Ben

Ben, interference motor means the valves extend into the combustion chamber enuff so the piston will hit the valves, if the valve timing is off....Like a broken timing belt..the cam stops turning in time with the crank, and KABOOM!
Some engines like my wive's will miss the valves if the cam timing is off, or the belt breaks...

Ok, so it's just how far down they get pushed? After I posted that I realized it didn't seem to make much sense for the valves to get pulled up.

    ALL FIXED

    Well,
I went out an bought a manual...only 15 bucks, and all I needed was one page....

Well, 2 hours later, the car was buttoned up, and running great.
I hope this is all the excitement I'm gonna have, considering I got 2 weeks off!

Beet, thanks for the look-see Bud.
