    Looking for a collections attorney

I won a lawsuit with a contractor, and now I need to collect. The judgement was for about $100k, which is a lot of money to me, but apparently not a ton to most collections attorneys.

Anybody have someone they've worked with that they can recommend? Ready to hire immediately.

I don't think an attorney is the right person to break someone's leg, talk to your local bookie, see who he uses

I hired a collection agency once, they didn't do shit, I ended up collecting on my own 4 years layer (with interest) + additional retainer, when the client wanted me testify as an expert witness

Yeah it's not something I'm excited by. It also feels like everyone I know is a lawyer and they can't even find people in their networks to take it. Googling just yields people that look like ambulance chasers.

The rates I see online are like ~30% of whatever they collect. I'm tempted to offer them ~50% if they can get the full amount in some time period. I just want to be made somewhat whole.

You can take this judgment to the state board and have his builders license suspended until you’re paid.

Yeah it's already suspended. There's also a state guarantee fund (basically a slush fund) that is meant to help for these sort of things. I need to apply for that.

30% was the initial rate in "Phase 1" of collections, then it jumped to 50% in Phase 2, the Collections Agency wanted 50% of what I collected on my own, however, I didn't get paid by the client, I actually got paid by his land dispute attorney with a new contract

On a more recent job, I actually got my client to sign a mortgage, and recorded it at the registry of deeds, they paid it slow, but paid with interest, I was actually hoping they would default, cause I wouldn't mind owning the property (15 acre woodlot)

Took a deposit, started demo, took some payments, did some damage, disappeared.

The actual damages were like $30k, but we had no kitchen for six months, had to pay other contractors to fix their screwups, had to eat out, etc. Then they defaulted which made them liable for duplicate and triplicate damages.
