I like where your head is! Ironically, we saw a Mercedes G550 and she was all over it. Until I told her they started around $150K! I mean she still liked it, but holy FAHK!

We also test drove a 2020 Macan, for the money, it wasnít impressive at all. My opinion it was the same quality/comfort level as the Range Rover.
Andrew had a MB sedan prior to the GLC300, another car I really liked but it was to low and would bottom out on our driveway.

Somehow the SQ8 has made it onto the Bossís list for her new SUV this year. Iíd rather eat glass than give Audi my money, but itís not going to be my vehicle. On paper I still want her to get the F Pace, but sheís also repeatedly brought up the new Yukon Denali.

Somehow I need to convince her a Kia and pair of new Maverick SxSís is money better spent. Never happen.

There was an SQ7 in the hotel parking lot last week. Very sharp, I prefer the sport back to the SQ8. 500 horsepower and 570 ft lbs.

She test drove a couple "S" models. I walked away with an entirely different feeling. They're beautiful vehicles inside & out and I'd LOVE to have one in the stable. No way in hell *I'D* spend that kind of money on a vehicle though.

Wife likes her macan. It’s not the S. Nice styling and fit and finish in and out. Sloped rear hatch does reduce some space when carrying taller stuff. Good ride. Preppy for base model engine but no real “thrill”. Maybe with 50 more horses. Not that we hammer the pedal and cruising at 80 or 90 is fine. I think it’s the basic Audi/VW 2.0T but with the DCT trans. We’ve got 19k for miles. No issues other than a fussy USB outlet.

Cool, I didn't know the Audi vs Macan were so different. I do know the Macan dash has a little graphic that shows the torque split between front and rear and in the dry is very rear based. Didnt realize the Audi was the opposite.

Their addon warranty can be very attractive too for something typically less than reliable.

Hopefully he did the math that the higher amount offset the sales tax credit from trade in by enough to make it worth it.

the good news is that there's still a wide range of other CarMax cars you can still get with the good ol' bumper-to-bumper warranty. V12 BMWs. Eight-year-old AMGs and "M" cars. High-performance Porsches and Audis. Expensive luxury sedans with motorized rear-seat tray tables. They're all still available, still for sale, still offered with the warranty for just a few thousand dollars extra.

    Two points.

    1) I think the prices have been adjusted since that article. Last I looked about $5k to 6K is what was offered. Still higher but less drastic

    2) If you want to future proof yourself from an "unreliable" vehicle and extreme potential unforeseen expenses but $8000 over 6 years (delta of $4000 over 6 years compared to original) isn't going to be worth it, that means either a) your vehicle wasn't as unreliable as you think or b) your unforeseen expenses aren't as expensive as you thought they were going to be.

When we are talking about a warranty on something like the mentioned above V12 BMW where an engine chain job alone can be $15,000 not to mention other problems, it's still a great feature/option to have a warranty that covers things like that on known unreliable cars.

I think Doug added his total up to about $15k during his ownership period

Aaaaand Doug just paid I believe ~$10k extra or somewhere in that neck of the woods for extended warranty on his to new Defender to reach 100k. He's a frugal guy and even $10k was worth it for him.

Better strap in for this one. Big Shirl *PROBABLY* isn't going for an SUV this round. That's really all I paid attention to. By the time she actually buys something, she'll change her mind 3,874 times.

The real kicker? She seems to think dropping $25K on a Razr Turbo is a great idea. Not to actually RIDE though, no. Just to bop back & forth to our beach that's less than 2 miles away. Never mind that she doesn't meet requirements/restrictions/stipulations to register it for the road. "...it would just make a fun toy to bring my stuff to the beach...". Why the Razr Turbo you ask? Because it looks cool and she REALLY likes the colors. Yeah, this is what I'm faced with from time-to-time.
