hmm 15 year warranty, and it's 15 years old, this was a great mattress 2 years ago, but in the past 3 months, it has started sagging dramatically. not sure if I want the same thing again or not

Are you seriously complaining about a mattress lasting 15 years?

Did you really just compare a vehicle and mattress? When was the last time you replaced a part on a mattress?

A great way to road test the different mattresses is to get a female mattress salesperson working on commission. Show up 2 minutes before closing......Just kidding. Go cheap. Replace often. Rotate and flip if possible. Lotta mattresses can't be flipped anymore.

That's not part of the mattress. That would be like saying you went through 3 different bed liners on your truck...

    Re: Mattress shopping

I finally replaced my old mattress that started to sag too long ago. I kept meaning to replace it, but every time I looked around, I got annoyed and skeptical. One night I impulse-bought a replacement, figuring it's so cheap even if it lasts a year, I won't be too upset about it. Life's too short to keep sleeping on what I had.

$220~ballpark for a Lucid 10inch, Gel topped medium. 2 or 3 inch of 'gel' layer glued to the top of what is probably a few dollars worth of commercial foam and it's working fine so far. I hadn't considered that the gel layer technically means it shouldn't be flipped. Only had it a month now, so not enough meaningful time. I wonder how many of these are all different names and prices for the same or very similar product.

I was a little apprehensive the gel would be too cold in the winter or too unnatural feeling. But it isn't a true 'gel' in the way I was expecting and that's probably a good thing. Feels closer to what I think could be called generic memory foam. Medium feels like an accurate term. If anything, a bit on the softer side of medium. I don't think I would be disappointed with a firm.

Almost four years with the Tuft & Needle and we still love it. Hasn't changed noticeably or have any sagging. Full disclosure I do weigh about 35lbs, but still pretty impressed.

How about pillows? I have a tweaked vertebrae, so basically any comfortable fluffy pillow == days of neck pain. Best solution has been the shittiest, flat old pillow we have but I'm considering taking the risk of a new pillow.

    Re: Mattress shopping

Pillows are just as important as mattress. If you're a side sleeper, the distance from your shoulder to the side of your head needs to be about the thickness of the pillow when compressed. If not, you end up with neck pain. The pillow I have is basically a bag of shredded memory foam. It was thick as hell when I bought it and doesn't compress much, but you can get in and add/remove foam to get the desired thickness. I sleep great, highly recommend.

As if we needed any more evidence, the last ~10 posts are proof that Randy will argue about literally anything.

Cool, haven't really seen one of those yet I'll look around. I used to use a small travel pillow case and filled with closed-cell foam for camping - actually quite comfortable and compressed down really small for packing.

15 warranty on a mattress is like a 15 year warranty on a bag of beef jerky. Sure, it might still be there in 15 years, but you don't want to eat it by then. It's an industry gimmick/slimy marketing tactic. The only major consumer industry that has more markup and bullshit than jewelry.
