    Re: Miatas.

There were over 125 Miatas at Miata Day and they were still rolling in as I left. Everything from art cars to track rats to mint daily drivers: some very odd. The average miles were a lot higher than most cars that show up at these events. More stuffed animals than Iíve ever seen at any other car show.

The best ambassador was the woman with the Spec Miata. She seemingly knew everything about Miata competition cars.

So wish they would offer a regular coupe version, eliminate the roof complication, cut the $$$ and add lightness. With the new added HP next year it would be

as you can guess, not a vert guy, actually anti-vert

If I were to buy a new one today, give me the MX-5 Sport. It may lack the LSD and Bilstein shocks, but the $4k price difference more than covers that in the aftermarket. The car is titties.

    Re: Miatas.

Tough...the club may very well be a better buy. Looks like the upgrade list is:

Sport: Base model. Starts at $25,735. Notable standard features: 6-speed manual transmission, 16 inch aluminum wheels, LED headlights, air conditioning, cloth seats, power windows, power locks, 6-speaker audio system with CD player, Bluetooth capability, dual front and side airbags.

Club: Performance oriented model. Starts at $29,420. Notable standard features over Sport: 17 inch aluminum wheels, 9-speaker Bose audio system, front air dam, rear spoiler, sporty Bilstein shocks, limited slip differential, shock tower brace, in-car communications system with 7 inch touchscreen.

Also worth noting, if you go with the Club model, you can do the Brembo/BBS package ($4k!!) whereas you can't on the Sport. Tough call.

The new RF is hot. Now if they could just get rid of the "hey, there is a tablet stuck to the top of my dash, but I can't seem to pull it out of it's dock" shit.

    Re: Miatas.

Or if they could stop making the interior room less and less over time. I fit perfectly fine in a first generation Miata, quite comfortable actually. I sat in one of the new Miatas at the car show and I don't even come close to fitting comfortably. The door panels have gotten thicker, the dash has gotten larger, the console has spread out over time all taking valuable space away from the passenger area. I'm sort of in the market to replace my Subaru and I would love a 2 door AWD car but there really aren't any good options for those out there so the next best thing will be a RWD 2 door sporty car and the new Miata was on the list until I tried to sit in one.

When I figure out how I'm getting rid of the truck I'm probably gonna do an M230i or m240i xdrive... seems like a good option.

We were just talking about this at work yesterday. Only thing we could figure is safety features are taking up all the room.

Looked briefly at the BMW. Price tag is the biggest turn off. The fact that it is a BMW with associated BMW things is another.

Definitely something to buy after a year or two and let someone else take the crazy depreciation hit.

The maintenance on the new ones still scares the shit out of me though.

Mostly all the stupid little things that start to go wrong as the cars age. Nickel and dime adds up fast. The cars need a lot of care and feeling and even basic things get expensive fast.

For example, a simple battery swap requires the car to be reprogrammed and told it has a new battery in it. Complexity for complexity sake.

Didn’t catch her name, that #33 car was hers.

One comment she made was that Miatas race in 10 different SCCA classes. One of the turbos cars seemed to be race prepped but didn’t ask about classes for it.

Told a German friend that they don’t seem to handle electronics well, and he replied, “I don’t understand why, we hired the best British electronics engineers to teach us!
