My friend who lives in the Florida keys says you can find them less than $1k all day. I was thinking about a V8 swap. I'm over it now though.

It's true. College bud moved down that way ("Space coast") and scored one for free.
Naturally, it had a gazillion miles on it, was held together with smurf blue duct tape, and every bit of interior was sun bleached and cracked. But he didn't actually pay cash money for it.

Actually, he and you may have gotten along. Like you, his stuff multiplied. The freebie was his 3rd Miata at the time.

There is a high concentration of aging gay men* and those who may not know they are yet, in the Keys. The Miata oversupply is inevitable.

*disclaimer- I race an SV. And have a street bike with a factory pink stripe. And a rainbow colored FZR. And meet up with sweaty guys I don't know in strange spots on weekends to inflict pain. So, no judgement here.

It's 350 miles from the Keys to Canaveral.

My brother and his wife live near Austin, TX. Far better bet than FL. It's crazy: yo can look under a 20 yo car and the underbody paint is still there. A garage-kept TX car would be hard to beat.

    Year 1 of the dance.

Remove 640cc EV14 injectors, put stock injectors back in. Unplug megasquirt and plug stock ECU back in. Turn down bewst to 7psi. Plug stock EBC back in. Drive until ODB2 systems finish their check, then get it inspected.

Then put good injectors and ECU back in, unplug stock EBC. Turn bewst back up!

Not a football guy, but even if I was, I'd prefer a player that actually helps out in a superbowl.

    Re: Miatas.

Love me some miatas. Getting out of jetski racing and didn't know which direction I was going to go.. miata track days or motorcycle track days / racing in the future. I ended up going with the motorcycle, but I do have a 2000 with shitty coilovers, swaybar and mounts, rollbar, kirkey seat, and new 15x9 6uls going on this spring. Also have turbo parts that I'll probably never put on and a subframe jig half built for a 302 swap haha

    Re: Miatas.

I think every "enthusiast car" forum has an "I Love Miatas" thread.

    "Simplify, then add lightness."
    Colin Chapman.

The GenI Miata weighed 2,070 lbs and despite all the safety requirements the newest gen is still just over 2,300+. By comparison a Subru BRZ is 2,800 and a WRX is around 3,300.

I'm sure they don't appeal to the liter bike squid crowd, but anyone who appreciates an RD400, for example, will appreciate them for what they are.

    Re: Miatas.

I'm curious how your Miata would launch vs my Grand Sport...it's very hard for me to get the power to the ground. Do you know what you can pull in the turns, G-wise? I've always fantasized about how quick a forced-induction Miata could be!

    Re: Miatas.

The problem with the MazdaSpeed miata is the size and style of turbo. It's a big-lag, small size turbo. No light titanium rotor in there, old school crap turbo. So putting power down is easy, until it finally winds up enough. Then it's an exercise in "how long do I want to bang it off the limiter while spinning both back tires" or "short shift and lose all boost".

First gear launches nearly always mean breaking loose once boost hits. Second will as well if the tires are cold or it's wet out. People aren't kidding when they say around 250hp is the max you want to be able to enjoy driving one of these around town. Just so light and the tires aren't that wide.

I want to drive your car. Lately I've been missing my ol' NB.

    Miatas.-crw_8740-jpg

What sucks is there is no way I could justify owning one again; no passenger capacity, can't tow anything to speak of, not good enough MPGees.

    What I need is a hyper-light, RWD mini hot-hatch.

Have you been able to tune around it a little with a controller? Curious what size tires you're running. All season or Summer-only? Yeah I can imagine it's the ultimate little buzz-bomb! I'm hoping they pave some of these roads this year....they were bad last year....Now they are almost undriveable in a car with 3 inches of ground clearance!
