    Montezuma tool boxes

Anyone have one of their portable tool boxes? Looking at getting a 30" model, seems to hold a good bit and is conveniently portable (if you can lift it). I have too many small filled toolboxes, just looking to consolidate while maintaining a smaller footprint.
    thanks

Never heard of them until now. Pretty nifty.

Wish they made them in aluminum for outdoor/marine use.

They do have them in AL. They are really made to be on the back of a truck or mobile.

I'm checking dimensions to see what fits on my current stack and will fit under the rear cover on the Avy. I like the design. I carry my tools to work a lot and in a standard box they bounce around in the drawers, this system of hanging the tools makes sense. I'm sure they wouldn't work well in the Dakar rally but for normal transport I think it would be a nice set up.

    Re: Montezuma tool boxes

So I finally pulled the trigger on a Montezuma 30x15. First impressions are that it is heavily built, the box alone weighs over 65#. Doesn't seem like it would but there's a lot to it. When you first pick it up empty the handles seem to be misplaced as it wants to roll top heavy on you. That goes away once it is loaded. Which brings up the next point, it is pretty heavy loaded, not something for carrying around, it's actually fairly awkward to carry. Set it in your vehicle and that's where she stays.
Storage; I emptied a 6 drawer upper box and a 3 drawer mid box into it and didn't fill it, not close. I've had it strapped in the back of the truck for the past week to see how it does and it is working out great. No tools fall, they all stay in place. Everything is easily accessed without going through drawers and you can easily see when a tool is missing (unless it is one of the things you keep in the general population area in the lower back.)
Couple things I don't like, no place for my allen and torx sockets since they have no pass through holes. Thinking about riveting a generic socket wand to one of the crossmembers. Right now those sockets stay in their holders and go in the under tray. Also no great place for shorter extensions or socket universals. Might try the same thing with the socket wand for those.
If you travel with your tools, I definitely recommend one of these.

    Re: Montezuma tool boxes

I bought a Montezuma tool box a few weeks ago, smallest size 23" using it for metric tools only, very well built box, shock assisted cover, good handles for TWO people to move it, portable ? make sure you're wearing yer jock strap when you lift it. even empty, it's a hefty box

I may get a second one this size for SAE tools

    Re: Montezuma tool boxes

I have mine pretty full now, weighs a ton. I think it's great, not as convenient to work out of as a standard tool box, but if you are travelling with your tools, it keeps them well organized.

The fact that I only got one thumbs up is a sad indictment of our culture
