    Mother******ing mosquitos

I don't know what's going on this summer but it has never been this bad over here.
Giant savage mosquitos in my area. You can't even roll your window down at the car near my house.
I was grilling tonight and I had to run in and out the house because it was impossible stay outside for more than a few seconds.

I ordered one of those insect blue lights and some mosquito repellent candles.
    What you guys use?

The past few days it has been really bad, way above normal.

I cannot go camping without those green mosquito coils. Coleman has the best I think but some of the others work pretty well also.

Haven't had much trouble here on the cape this year so far but I have like 12 tiki torches lit up for ambiance and a smoke screen

Mosquitos around here aren't bad. Whenever I think they are I just remind myself about what they are like in northern maine/ alaska. The greenheads right now are insane, there are probably several hundred hunkered down on the outside of my car.

All of the above...skeeters, deerflies, and greenheads! Makes it hard to walk the dogs and go for a run....guess I need to run faster!

I've tried the Permethrin spray on a hat....doesn't work on deerflies for me.

When you're grilling, setup a tower fan on oscillate to keep the critters away.

Dude that's so weird. We usually have the worst mosquito swarms spring and early summer but we've had absolutely none this year. Crazy how different things can be only an hour away.

We've used a bug zapper in the past with great results. Just make sure you slap a carbon dioxide patch on it or it won't attract them (and it will kill lots of good bugs too if you don't)

most effective way to avoid deer flies biting,is to take a cheap hat, secure and old cottage cheese container upside down to the hat, then wrap the container with fly paper, the deer flies will be attracted to your hat and not you, and get stuck

Last year I bought a small bottle of Ole Time Woodsman Fly Dope. It was something like $8 for a 2 oz bottle. It works pretty good for flys and other flying pests.

    Re: Mother******ing mosquitos

I could barely go outside because of these monsters. I have a small stream on the side of my yard that is active all spring and mostly dries up in the summer.

I bit the bullet and bought a Mosquito Magnet from Home Depot. It was about $400. I replace the 20lb propane tank and the scent cartridge about every 3 weeks. Which costs about $15.

I also have one of these...1 Acre | DYNATRAP Insect Trap

I know there are mixed reviews on both. I have been way more than happy. 99% of the mosquitos are gone. I empty the net with thousands of them in there every time I change the tank. It can be a little costly at first but I wasted my time with all the other crap out there and if you add up the costs i'm sure its not as bad as it sounds. I have 3 kids in the yard so not looking to put a combat load of mosquito equipment on them when they hit the yard.

I don't have many mosquitoes or black flies near my house, even though I live next to a swampy area, but I do have bats in my barn

Well the bats explain the lack of bugs.

I've got two Mosquito Magnets. Probably won't be using one of them. I'll let you know if I decide to sell one.

That yard guard spray stuff seems to work. We were camping this past weekend and as soon as the sun started going down, we sprayed the perimeter. Didn't see any bugs for a while. My testicles still hurt and I can breathe through one nostril, but no bug bites.

    Re: Mother******ing mosquitos

I was being followed by the most persistent horsefly doing laps around my head while riding my bicycle so I pulled out my 100% DEET bottle. Just before spraying myself, I realized every bit of me was polyester products and got nervous about damaging anything. So I sprayed it on the sides of my bicycle helmet. Worked great, except that the surface plastic helmet cover has some slight imperfections I can feel with my fingers.

Anything else besides DEET work against horseflies? Or, should I not be concerned about my polyester blend clothing? I thought it was primarily nylon that DEET damaged (hence the plastic problem with the helmet) but I've read less informed anecdotes about not using it on other types of synthetics.

I use a bug zapper 9 months a year and it seems to help. I use attractant too.
