number9 - Are you shipping the bikes or getting them out there on your own? There is a guy I've used to get my bike down to Daytona a few times. It was $500 round trip in the back of his enclosed 18 wheeler vehicle transporter. JPG Express LLC - I would rather fly out and meet my bike there is that was an option.

At Indy they allowed Groms and scooters into the infield for free. People could ride them around to the different viewing locations. Any idea if COTA allows scooters to roam? When I was at Indy I wished I had my Grom. It was the perfect bike to have at the event.

Right now my Hyper is in Austin at TrackRat's house -- he lives there now. I'm not sure if it'll still be there when COTA rolls around, but probably. I'll have to ship it back, though, no fucking way am I riding it back.

I don't know if they're allowed to roam, but I never saw any in the 2 years I've been going.

I am definitely interested. Been meaning to try to get to a MotoGP even and also visit Austin so I could kill two birds with one stone here.

I went to their site and I do not see just general entry tickets? I see packages and stuff but I obviously want to book things on my own which will make it cheaper.

Thinking about it. Just booked rooms. It's too bad they don't race a laguna or Indy anymore.

I'll be there, usually do Sat-Monday, Jet blue direct flights are usually the best option. Also doing Mugello this year

I book stuff on my own as well...I had free hotel and flight points to use. The tickets are not available on the COTA site yet, but when they are...you can get general admission from them.

Our flights and hotel were booked a few weeks ago...just waiting on COTA to start selling tickets.

Where's everyone staying? I booked the Home2 about 7 miles from the track. How's the transportation around there? Need a rental car?

Aint hardly any public transportation at all. Uber and Lyft are gone (though rumors are they might be coming back), but there are other ride sharing services. If you're only coming for MotoGP, they do have shuttles from downtown to the track. So depending what you wanna do, a rental car may or may not be necessary.

I bought Turn 1 tickets the first year, and GA every year after that. I like being able to walk around and see everything. And the track lets you bring in chairs, blankets, and I saw some of those "inflatable" chair things at F1, so its not like comfort is sacrificed.

I'm thinking of going again this year. Strangely enough the wife is the one haunting me to get tickets!
Went to the 1st one on a GA ticket. Thinking seats might be better this year. Any recommendations for grand stand seat? The 1st year there weren't too many grandstand section.

    Re: MotoGP Austin 2017

I went last year and had a very good time. I was working in St. Louis, so it was a quick trip. 900 miles was a long day there, and an easy 1-1/2 days back.

Don't think I'll make it this year. From NH, it's over 2000 miles; that's 3 days each way, plus the event, means a full week off of work. I like being an independent contractor overall, but one the downsides is that there's no such thing as PTO -- days off work translate directly to lost income.

I got general admission, with the Ducati package, which has several perks.
The Turn 15 grandstand is good. The Duc package includes the Turn 12 grandstand, which is even better -- you can see everything you can see from the Turn 15 stand, plus a bit more.
Also, the hill on the backside overlooking Turns 2/3/4 is entertaining.

I've sat in the Turn 15 grandstands both years, and definitely feel like they're worth it. Interesting opinion from Phil about Turn 12, and he's probably right.

Somewhat unrelated, but I'm toying with the idea of renting out my Ducati ST4S for the event, if anyone is interested. The bike is for sale at the moment, but I don't expect it to sell before MotoGP.
