Moving a truck with no fluid in rear differential?

I need to pull the rear axles on my van. I don't think I have enough space in my driveway to do both sides at the same time. Will I regret turning the van around in my driveway with an empty rear differential case so as to do one side at a time?

Nah. Plenty of residual oil for the move. Just don't go buy a case of beer while "turning it around".

As posted about many months ago, the backing plates for the parking brake shoes are rotted out. There are aftermarket 2-piece backing plates that make this a 15 minute job... available for every truck/van on the market EXCEPT mine. So the axles must come out. I had finally resolved to have a shop do it until talking to my brother the other day. He convinced me that I was being a puss.

    buy another van

I had an axle swapped between 2 identical pickup trucks...was more expensive than it's worth on an '01 F150...but I had a rare 7 lug 10.25" rear end and now I have limited slip

Depends on how many burnouts you do in the process.

Just run some Slick50 in there for a few miles before you drain it.

    No, Amsoil.

In other news, I'm an Amsoil dealer.

As long as the van is mounted with snow tires you will be fine.

While it's up on jacks, it'll be a perfect time to register it as an off road vehicle.
