Is there an easy way to calculate the speed reduction from bigger tires? Simple math? Online calculator?

    You fuckers are an inspiration.
I got a two-fer in today: an easy cruise early this morning, and an hour of power in just now.

    Re: Official non-motorized motorcycle thread.

Fun ride(s) this evening. A full 7 days off since my last one so I wanted to take things a bit easier, go for a big one tomorrow after work.

I went to Village Park in Swansea first. It was pretty damn cool, more like a playground for bikes than anything else. No long climbs but I was surprised at the varied terrain back there. Some extremely technical stuff, some big ass drops, quite a few man made obstacles. Most importantly, some really good flowing singletrack. I met another solo rider out there and spoke for a minute, said the LBS does a Wednesday night 6:30 ride there, so I'll definitely be back for those. Highly recommend visiting if you haven't been yet.

I pulled out of there about 7:00 and went to the unknown trailhead near the house. Discovered a lot back there. It's pretty flat, most of it will be friendly to incorporate into a dual-sport loop. Well maintained. There are a few sections where the baby heads could definitely fuck up your wheels, glad I was on the MTB because it was fairly low light at that point. I learned after via the town Facebook group the land is owned and maintained by the Anawan Club and they're fine with people using the land as long as you're courteous. The old school name of the pond is Bad Luck Pond which I think is cool so I guess I'll have to call it the Bad Luck Loop now.

Anyway, it was fun. I left the phone and ride tracking devices in the truck and just went and pedaled. Did about 45 minutes at Village Park another 30 at Bad Luck.

    Re: Official non-motorized motorcycle thread.

I got a very short ride in today as I was pressed for time. I did get to try out my latest impulse/ impatience buy. I set 3 PR's on strava with the new iron without trying for 2 of them and managed 19.8mph overall. I hope in a longer ride I can get my 20.

Congrat's on the new bike JC!

If any of you gravel bike guys want to try a nice set of road tires I have a extra pair of 28c Conti GP4000S2 tires that you can have. These ended up being quite a bit bigger than the 28c Vittoria tires that came on my bike so I had clearance issues with them. They were too big for my wife's bike too so I have no use for them. I went to 25c tires on my bike.

    PM me if you're interested.

    Re: Official non-motorized motorcycle thread.

Why does it seems impossible to find a decent used hardtail mountain bike in the 200-250 dollar range? Everything is either 60-100 dollar junk from walmart or 1k+. What are people doing with all of the ~700 dollar retail bikes that are 5-6 years old lol. Is this too much to ask or am I just doing this wrong?

I have a trek marlin from like 2011 that I got from a friend for 150, but it turns out he's the only one I could maybe talk into riding with me so I'm looking for a second so he can buy his back.

edit - I seem to be having much better luck today, no idea why I didn't see any of this stuff yesterday. That being said, if anyone has any recommendations still I'd love to hear them

Did I see you're moving to Rhode Island? There's a decent crown of NESR'ians on the south coast that do bicycles and you could come do bicycles with us if ya want.

It's a possibility. My wife would like to go to the med school in Providence but we won't know exactly where we're going to be going until sometime later next spring. I'll keep that in mind though!

Arcy sent me a podcast the other day which noted the benefits of shaved legs using a wind tunnel. We both thought it was BS before....but now are both considering it.
