Why not just have it welded?

They give a $150 credit for a local shop to do it, or if I sent my bike to them they would swap everything over. I am just going to do the work myself. No big deal. The only part needing replacing is the rear derailleur cable. The hydraulic brake lines are external so they don't need to be disconnected. I have my own bearing press for the BB and headset as well.

Bike build time! Just got my replacement frame. I have to say: I hate FedEx! I always have. They are the worst package delivery service. My frame had been sitting at the FedEx hub in Middletown, CT since Monday night and it was just delivered today. My son had to sign for it, and they didn't even knock on the door. If I hadn't happened to check the progress of the delivery at the exact moment they were about to leave with "delivery attempted" I would have had to wait until tomorrow. My son had to run out to the delivery person and get the package before they left. Anyway, I got it now.

UPS is the same. I've had the guy come up to my open door toss my package onto my step and then run off while I was in sight.

I wish I had the extra cash to build out a new bike. I'd like to have a disc brake road bike. I've been thinking about doing the short route on the Pan Mass challenge next year if anyone is interested.

Whitney's crux and MTB just stolen off the back of her car this morning in LA. Cut through the bike rack locks and the extra cable lock she added.

Good thing I sprung for "replacement cost new" in my renters insurance.

    Re: Official non-motorized motorcycle thread.

Replacement frame is built. Taking the headset and bottom bracket out of the old frame was an experience. The bottom headset bearing was muddy as hell from last year and pretty much exploded as I was trying to take it all out. Found all the ball bearings which had scattered about my basement floor. Cleaned everything up with mineral spirits, reassembled and packed with a ton of grease. Top bearing was fine. The bottom bracket I replaced at the beginning of the season with a Kogel Ceramic BB. It is a PF GXP. This sucker did not want to come out even though I used a crap load of grease when I initially installed it. I ended up leaving it and installed the old bottom bracket that I still had. The derailleur hanger was not straight from the factory, so I had to align it properly. All in all, the frame swap was fairly quick apart from looking for the last headset bearing on my floor. Mansfield Hollow and Minuteman are up this weekend.

I would replace the headset bearings. I know its kind of a pain figuring out the right ones, but this is the best tool I found, but your LBS will be best. I'm very surprised the replacement frame didn't come with the suite of bearings, they typically do.

Regarding your BB, sounds like its threaded. Remember that one side is opposite threads. Also, using BB socket instead is your best bet - not sure what tool you're using. That said, I've had to take one out with a pipe wrench once as it all just started to crumbled with other tools.

The frame only came with a derailleur hanger, nothing else. This was a warranty replacement frame, not a new frameset purchase. The headset bearings are uniquely sized. They are Acros headset bearings for an oversized steertube (Canyon frameset). While I will eventually replace them, I needed to get the bike finished and running for tomorrow. The bottom bracket is press fit. Since the bearings are likely junked now and I had another BB to install, I wasn't too concerned about just leaving the BB in the old frame. I used a Wheels Manufacturing Press 7 Pro for the headset and BB installation. This was the 2nd headset and 4th BB installation I did using this press, including a Rotor BB30/24 which presses in the driveside and the nondriveside threads onto the driveside. For removal I used a drift pin and a hammer.

    Re: Official non-motorized motorcycle thread.

Bike ran perfectly at Mansfield Hollow and at Minuteman. Just wish I wasn't so lazy lately and put in the work because my bike handling was really good, but my power was terrible. Lost so much ground in the climbs/straights. I was fast through the corners, but wasn't enough when I couldn't put out the power. Ran into Stu Ferguson - former LRRS racer and NEBO (New England Buell Owners) member - at Minuteman. He had been doing a lot of triathlon training lately and just started CX during the off season.
