For shitfucks I took my 29" hoops that came with my monkey (35mm wide) and tossed on some plus tires just to see.
It's a nice round profile, but I did have to trim the side knobs off the rear.

I want to see how it all feels compared to the b+ I normally run. It's like a mini krampus right now.

So do any of you roadies have any good used parts that I could shoehorn onto my synapse 5? I'm looking for used but cheap upgrades that would fit. I'm basically stock except for the speedplay pedals. Clincher disc brake rims, carbon bits, mech, etc...

Trying to get into a good training regimen indoors and then getting outside once the snow is melted.

Sorry for the spam and thanks in advance.

Ended up settling on this package.

    NiteRider Bike Lights

Can't wait to see how they work! Should be a good test to use them in Boston for the marathon ride the morning of the Boston Marathon.

I have the older version of this setup - Lumina 700 / Solas USB, and they're great.

Got out for the 2nd time this season last night.. froze my ass off. Like balled up on the couch under a blanket wearing a hoodie and still shivering froze. Not shorts weather yet, it seems.

Recommend me some early/late season riding stuffs for reasonable $.

    Re: Official non-motorized motorcycle thread.

I have a couple pairs of the $20 amazon unpadded tights I wear over my shorts.
Up top I have a couple different ways I layer depending on the temp. Thermal or regular long sleeve jersey, thermal or wind style vest, and cycling style wind breaker on top (or not).
Smartwool socks are my go to, long before booties or winter shoes. I don't think I wore my winter shoes at all this year, maybe once...maybe.

    Amazon searches:
    Cycling tights
    Cycling long sleeve (thermal) jersey
    Cycling jacket
Giro dnd gloves (also my go to)

Edit2: I don't use a thermal cycling jacket. You can't get away from it if you start to warm up. Always a windbreaker on top of I'm wearing one. Even if you get hot in a windbreaker, it's just a thin piece of nylon, it doesn't really retain any heat.

Edit 3: because we're talking about cheap attire, that's what it is. The zippers aren't as nice as the high quality stuff, and especially the shorts (which I have not and do not recommend) will come apart in the laundry. So buy this stuff knowing it won't last forever. Zippers can be replaced easily and locally and cheaply at the local alterations joint. And the stuff that does last, consider it good karma coming back.

NAshbar has been clearancing some colder weather gear as we head into warmth. Also picked up a nice pair of gel padded bibs the other day for short $$.

Colder days I wear a wind breaker vest that is mesh in the back. It rolls up into nothing should you no longer need it.

    Re: Official non-motorized motorcycle thread.

I bought a cycling windbreaker that I just barely fit into last year. Well, I fit reasonably well into it last year.. notsomuch now.
Issue was legs, feet, head, and hands. Turns out my helmet flows air really well, even when you don't really want it to.
Just really poor planning on my part. Really, really cold man. The last few miles sucked.

Found the $20 amazon leggings things. I'm gunna look so dead sexy in that! Added some full fingered gloves to the tab while at it.
I have several pair of smartwool socks. Love 'em. Will try that. Also a smartwool base layer. Somewhere I have a smartwool beanie for skiing too. Bet that'd do well too. This seems solvable.

Think I may fire up the mtb and try that Friday afternoon.. weather depending. Determined to force myself to like mtb this year. Maybe give up the motorized things a little this year in exchange. Spending a lot of time in the Deerfield & Candia area these days; wedged between Pawtuckaway, Bear Brook and the 'FOMBA' area.

Gore Phantom 2 Jacket. They are on Amazon for under $100 sometimes. I have been out on the fat bike in 15 degrees with just that jacket and thin under armor for a base layer. Sleeves zip off if necessary. Once it gets too warm for that jacket I switch to thrift store merino, which looks considerably less cyclist-y but also smells way better after a ride.

    Re: Official non-motorized motorcycle thread.

Visited my friendly Salsa dealer the other day. The guy who tells me he is the "biggest volume" Salsa/QBP in New England. Had one Timberjack in stock.. a 29" version sized XL. Says I should be riding a M sized frame. Of which there are zero available in the 27.5+ kit I have my heart set on available.. anywhere.
    REI.com agrees with this.

    Specialized Fuze 6Fattie?
Cannondale Beast of the East? (What a name!!!)

These seem like the high volume, regular joe alternatives.

The Tj was sold out quickly in regular human sizes.
As was the new current gen of the b+ karate monkey.

The fuse and the boe should readily be available.

edit: in the same price range of the tj, the fuse is the better buy, for sure. the comp level, offered in yellow/green and black is the one I'm looking at. 1550$.

Landrys in worcester had a medium leftover fuse at a good price last time I was in there. Think it was the red colored one. I have. I affiliation, may be worth a phone call. They also have a ex5 27+ at a good price.
Bikes and life (former bicycle alley), has a couple beast of the east in as well.
