This was classified as a criterium (crit), which normally go by a set amount of time. They'll say the race is an hour, time the first few laps of the race, then do some math and determine how many laps are left. Wikipedia actually does a really good job explaining a crit.

    Criterium - Wikipedia

This specific one was set to be an hour, but due to the crash and ambulance on course, we went neutral for about 15-20 minutes (which is very unusual as they typically clear the course fast), so they added some time.

The amateur crits are normally 40-50 minutes and the elite are typically 1-1.5 hours. Its pretty much full gas the entire time as compared to your more traditional road race that are a bit more drawn out. Sometimes they can be 2+ hours and are just brutal.

Hah. I've always been told a road race is just a giant group ride with a sprint at the end.

I think I have some bicycles somewhere....

In the higher categories (newer, slower riders) it can often be like that. At the more elite levels it becomes a high speed game of chess. My teammate put together this video (narrated through text) of the last 9 laps from a race we won last Sunday to show our newer racers. Its a 10 minute commitment, but its a great demonstration of team tactics.

They should have some that you can try out as well.

If you want to go DIY you can measure your sit bones and looks for used saddles, there are lots of active trading groups and people are always selling saddles for this reason.
How to Measure Sit Bone Width For Bicycle Saddle Selection
So I ended up with a medium Ergon saddle. The width fits really well, I find myself more concentrating on riding than my ass. The only issue I have with it is the center isn't cut out and tends to start to chaffe after about hour or so. But the pain and numbness are almost completely eliminated.
Thanks all for the recommendations. Is this the end all be all saddle, probably not, but it is getting me in the right direction.
