You could get a new Apple TV, they're $159 or so. They will run Zwift, but you might need new sensors...

I'll die before I buy Apple. Thanks for all the advice.

    I'll try new batteries first.

If it makes you feel better,

I spent all weekend taking a range officer course, eating doughnuts and pizza. A few months ago this would have been a win. Now...

Buy my Stumpjumper...don't give any consideration to the fact it is 4x your price range.

Edit: You're 6'2." I wouldn't even consider selling you a medium framed bike.

not really. it's a racey carbon hardtail with outdated "standards".
If you want a carbon hardtail 29'r, with the same level of spec and standards, I know of one that you're probably welcome to try. the emphasis is on probably, it'll take a whole text message and me letting myself into my homies basement to grab it.

FWIW, check out your LBS' websites. I had been scouring Facebook marketplace, eBay, and Craigslist for weeks, and then decided to check out a few LBS' inventories. I found a killer deal (~40% off) that brought a 2016 leftover into my price range, and it was only a mile away.

I actually fucked that up. I want full suspension...unless of course yous guys think it doesn't matter a bunch. Intended purpose: trail riding. Think enduro riding but without gas. Also keep in mind I don't care much about outdated standards. I want good components that work well and I want them cheap....so if it's 5 years ago good components I can dig it.

I think full suspension matter a bunch on a bicycle, whether it comes from large volume tires and is undamped, or from actual boingy bits.
For anything you'd actually want to pedal around on, be prepared to shell out at least a G for something used and decent.

    Re: Official non-motorized motorcycle thread.

For me the maintenance kills full suspension. They say 2 seasons max before rebuilt. I haven't the tools or the patience to screw with a bicycle shock. So.

I'm finding a 3" tire an adequate substitute for my way of riding.

Cannot say enough about the Timberjack I bought last year. It's an extremely fun ride.

All that said, I have no experience riding full suspensions further than around a back yard.

To come full circle with this, should I just go buy a fatty like I originally thought? I care zero about being faster or slower than anyone, really just want to get out and ride some trails, have some fun, and be less fat.

Real fatties (~5" tires) are a bitch to pedal.
"Plus" tires (~3" tires) aren't as bad.

I vote full suspension still. But that's just me. I think someone with less fitness would prefer the bike without all the heavy bits a fat bike comes with. I draw the analogy of full suspension:4wd::hardtail/rigid:2wd. Put it in the expert race car drivers hands, he'll probably prefer the 2wd to get around the track fastest. Put it in the common mans hands and they'll be infinitely faster on the 4wd.

Our household just took home a pair of new mountain bikes. I went for the 2018 Stumpjumper Expert, her a 2018 Epic Pro. I'm really looking forward to riding these two bikes. The Epic is supposed to be an incredibly smart bike, that auto-locks the rear shock when it doesn't sense it needs it. My bike is just a super beefy version of the 2016 Stumpjumper I had before, closer to an enduro bike. I felt the 2016 was lacking in ability to go off of any really sweet jumps unless you were pinpoint accurate with everything.

She doesn't get as rowdy on the bikes, but is more interested in XC races. I ride mountain bike simply for the thrill.

We'll be selling our prior mountain bikes. Hers is a 2009 26er Stumpjumper, probably looking for around $500. Mine is a 2016 Carbon Comp Stumpjumper, probably looking around $2,200. Both mediums.

    Re: Official non-motorized motorcycle thread.

Fair. Maybe fatty isn't right. I just don't know if I can justify the cost of a full suspension bike at this stage, entry price is 3x that of a hardtail. Happy to entertain as a second bike purchase but they're silly money for me to spend on a hobby I don't know I'll even like.

So, hardtail. $1000ish budget. Spend my money wisely.

    Re: Official non-motorized motorcycle thread.

although a 29" hardtail is considerably less comfy to ride than a squish, they're till pretty nice, all things considered.
If you can find a timber jack, I highly recommend it as a screw around bike. for 13-1500 new, the price is right, the tech is good enough and those mid-fat tires kind of offer the best of both worlds. I say kind of because everything is a compromise.
The new karate monkey is in the same price range, but doesn't come with a squishy fork stock. It's a little more niche-y in its blank canvasness though.

a fat bike can/is cumbersome off the shelf. once you set it up tubeless and put some decent rubber on it it becomes a whole new bike. it's not the complete answer to all things cycling. nothing is. but monster trucking through the woods is a total hoot, regardless of speed.
