    Online selling shitshows

So, what are you kids doing for online sales these days?

I have a handful of Duc parts that I've been hawking on Facebook groups (not marketplace, but bike-specific groups).
Fuck me, it's like wading through a Bangkok dumpster full of syringes.

I've had three different buyers ask for a shipping quote to an address within the continental US only to change to an address in Singapore, Thailand, etc at the last second.
One did the switch via his PayPal payment... DHL wanted $200 to ship to Singapore & PayPal keeps the 2.9% fee on my refund ($28 in this case).

I have been noticing that craigslist may finally be dying. I no longer use it to sell/rent stuff. FB Marketplace has gained traction. At first it was ONLY BS wankers on there, but now the real buyers/renters are there too. CL is now only BS wankers and no real buyers/renters.

Dealing with the wankers has gotten no easier.

These are just my observations mostly from landlord activities.

I had stayed off of the general marketplace hoping to avoid wankers. Not exactly working out, LOL.

Anybody still using ebay? What do they take now? 10%? Plus the 2.9% to PayPal? :/

Who else misses cash on the barrelhead?

I've found that if you are selling specialized things, then finding the most popular forum of that product use is the way to go.

    So Ducati forums.

Or maybe 13x racer forums. Prices at that place are sky-high already, could help your sale price.

I've had good luck with CL, but with most things patience prevails. If I really want to convert something into cash I price it low and off it goes. If I want a realistic price for something I have to be prepared to sit and wait.

I did notice that CL is charging to list motorcycles for sale. Trying to sell my minty, low mileage 2012 Tuono is one of those situations where I'm waiting.

i have noticed the same...once they started charging $5 per motorcycle ad in the beginning of Nov the amount of bikes on there dropped substantially which probably got rid of most of the scammers...i have tried offerup, letgo, fb marketplace and i am looking into mercari and nextdoor...i have most of my ads on CL still and it's a pain to move them...everything from my garage sale thread linked in my signature is up on CL...and as you can see from the sold list i have over 100 items sold mostly though CL...i have found offerup and letgo to be useless and i'm not sure the messages i've received are real people but i only have my dad's motorcycle posted up on those apps...have not tried the smaller items cause all they want is for you to pay to promote...not sure how many users those apps have either...fb marketplace i think it the place to go but i hate the setup...i may just post stuff on fb marketplace and when people ask i will email them the CL link to make it easy for me

Yes. Ebay is 10%, PayPal is 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction.
For anything I sell on eBay, I think of a list price, then multiply it by 0.87, then adjust accordingly for what I want to pocket before shipping.

Haven’t sold anything really big on eBay lately, try to stick to forums to avoid the 10%.

    Re: Online selling shitshows

I was selling a set of BMW rims on FB marketplace and a couple of FB groups forEVVVVEERRRRRRR..... But I was in absolutely no rush whatsoever to sell them. So my terms were simple and I stuck to them... no exception. The terms were no shipping... local pick-up only.... price was firm.

It took forever and I got a lot of inquiries. Of course most were asking if I would ship, meet far away or move on price... the answer to all was "no". I just stuck to my terms and in the end got someone who was willing to follow them. He actually drove up from New York city, paid me cash & I gave him the rims. Done. It was time consuming but I was fine w/ that.

    Re: Online selling shitshows

The part of all my conversations about the wheels that I chucked at the most was with the guy that ultimately bought em... He asked if I would lower my price from 800 dollars to 600 if he took the rims without the tires. I told him the price without the tires would be $1000.

He was like "Wait, the price is MORE if I don't take the tires?"

I'm like "Yes. You're asking me to load these in my car, drive to a shop, pay the shop to remove and dispose of the tires, and then take 200 dollars off my asking price. I can take them off, but it'll be $1000."

He was like "Oh..... yeah I guess that makes sense."

I’ve stopped selling on eBay and CL. When I’m selling things it’s on specific forums for that hobby.

Large items are only listed on local forums to avoid shipping.

It seems like FB marketplace and Nextdoor are the place to sell generically.

My pet peeve is people who pollute owner or enthusiast groups with their ads. FaceBook has a free, organized sales function, with search function. Sub-pet peeve is dealer salespeople putting up listings as private sales when they are not.

If we wanted your junk, we'd have a search set in MarketPlace.
