    The passing of Neil Peart

I'm surprised there's no thread on this.

Neil Peart, drummer and lyricist for the band Rush, for the last 40 years, has passed away.
He died on 07Jan20, from brain cancer.

His loss is very sad. He was a great musician, and an outstanding human being.
He was an avid motorcyclist, and wrote several fine travel books.

"Never follow anyone; be your own hero." -- Neil Peart

Here is an article from the AMA magazine, in 2009:

Huge loss. His book Ghost Rider is a good read. Heart wrenching and honest. Im not the biggest Rush fan (Geddys voice...) but no denying Mr Peart was one of the best drummers ever in rock.

A legend that transcended SO many genres. I remember seeing Rush as a kid, I couldn't keep my eyes off him. It was mesmerizing & inspiring. Never even knew he was ailing.

Huge loss. I queued up rush songs all weekend.
I went to their shows every tour during the 80-early 2000s

    Great thread Phil.
Neil's drumming talents were simply jaw-dropping. Went to a few Rush concerts in early 90's...what a show they put together!
On a side note, a local Rush tribute band-Lotus Land, really kicks ass. Front man sounds just like Geddy Lee http://lotuslandband.com/

Many Rush riffs have been whipped out at practice in Neil's honor.
Our drummer has zero illusions of even trying to mimic any of it, which makes it funny for the rest of us.
    This was a cruel loss.

Great drummer, didn't know he was such a avid Motorcyclist. The link posted was a nice read and will seek out his other writings. Makes me want to ride more!
