    Pavano or Pedro?

If it came down to one or the other, which would you rather have? Why?

Personally, I'd take Pavano over Petie at this point...

    Pavano or Pedro?

As much as I like Pedro... I think the $$ isn't worth it. I think he deserves more, but not Schilling money. If he was pitching like he was in '99 yes, but not like he is now. Dont get me wrong, he's still AMAZING, but he's not what he was, and probably wont be.

    Pavano or Pedro?

at this point, Pavano. Pedro was the best pitcher in baseball and he is now on the decline. Why would i want to pay more for a declining pitcher for 2 or 3 years when I can get a younger guy for longer and probably cheaper.

From what I hear the Sox feel like they would be signing Pavano on the upswing like they did on Pedro

    Pavano or Pedro?

My biggest concern with letting Pedro go is the 'Clemens effect'. The Sox didn't offer the big deal to Clemens when he was a free agent 'cuz they thought HE was on the decline. Now look at 'im...

On the other hand, look at Pavano's record with a mediocre team this past season. On the OTHER hand, he's only REALLY proven himself this season, in my opinion...

If Pedro could adjust his mechanics to compensate for his aging arm, MAYBE he could pull himself back up. The guy's no slouch, he's just gotta get through that first inning...

I have a feeling though that he's gonna suddenly realize that NO ONE is willing to give him the contract he's seeking. And we all know he's not gonna be happy unless he's the number one starter, no matter where he ends up...

    Pavano or Pedro?

I love Pedro but if he is looking for a 4 year 60mil contract, then F'him he is so not worth that much. I know he has done a lot for the Sox but he can go back under that palm tree he talked about if he is looking for that.

stoneman, the only difference between Clemens and Pedro is that Clemens didnt have a long history of injury, and he wasnt pitching with a torn labrum

The usual story with great pitchers is once they start to 'age', they lose summa their 'stuff'. A truely great hurler will work through that and learn to adjust to get that back. It usually takes a coupla 'off' years to develop the right form to compensate for the loss. My concern is still there. He's had a coupla 'off' years (many pitchers would KILL to have an 'off' year like he's had though!), and he HAS been working on his form & mechanics. I'm afraid if they let him go, we'll be kicking ourselves for the next 4 or 5 years. That is of course, IF he works this shit out...

oh fore sure. I still think he is a good pitcher, but he isnt as good as he wants to be paid. If that makes any sense. I still think he is probably a top 5 pitcher in the AL. But giving him 4 years 60 million (which he said he wants) would be foolish

Agreed. I have a feeling he's gonna realize no one's gonna give him that too...

BTW-Djya hear that Kapler just a three year deal to play in Tokyo?

yeah he wanted to be assured of playing time. I guess playing 133 games last year for the World Series champions wasnt enough. Not really a big loss now that they have Roberts

Kapler's no big loss. He'll probably fit in good with Japan ball (very different style of play). It'll most likely suit him well. I'm more confident with Robert's overall ability anyway. I'd take him any ol' day over Kapler...

On that note, I gotta say that I'd do whatever it took to sign Varitek. Even the contract he's currently after. They shied away from Fisk when he wanted the same kinda deal 'cuz they thought his career was near it's end. He went on and played what, TWENTY more years?

no argument here. Varitek is my fav player. They complain that there is no team leadership for years, and now they have one and they are gonna let him slip away?

I think this team will suffer without him behind the plate

    Agreed. Now, back on topic...

The fun's begun with Pedro. Djya hear what the Yankees offered him? Same money, but a FOUR year contract. We knew it was gonna happen. Pedro's gonna price himself OUT of so many possibilities/markets, it's not even funny...
