    The Photo Thread

It was suggested in another thread that we might be into a thread dedicated to photography, so here it is.
Maybe a bit of Q/A for those getting started? Camera settings, lens choice, etc...

    Post your stuff!

Here's one from last summer. Looking forward to getting hummingbirds back. They're fun subjects.

    Camera: Sony A7R3
    Lens: Canon 70-200 f/2.8L
    f/10
    1/250th
    ISO 250
    Dual remote speedlights

Its excellent. Super compact and much better than the nifty 50s...3x the price though! (But still less than the G and GM lenses) Surprisingly versatile:

Another few with it (I'm linking the full res and posting a resized version, I'll figure out a better way):

    Thanks!

    Yeah, begrudgingly.

A tripod ALWAYS pays off, even for shorter focal lengths. I hate carrying the damn thing, but can't deny the benefits.

It also opens up all of the long exposure opportunities that you won't think of until you're out shooting.

    Sony A7R3
Canon 100mm f/2.8Macro (a fantastic lens, by the way)
    f/29
    95 second exposure
    ISO 50
10-stop ND filter (really dark sunglasses, but they don't alter the color)
Circular polarizer (makes those blues pop)

that is cool shot. big fan of blue and this dose not disappoint.

ya next on my list is a tripod and a lens filter kit. once the new knobs go on the WR250r these are next on the list.

Agreed. It weighs nothing (another benefit of mirrorless). I have a Canon 50mm f/1.2L, and while I prefer the canon, it was stoopid money and it weighs a ton. When I go into the back country it's hard to justify bringing it when the Zeiss is so tiny & so damn sharp. Anyway, nice stuff! Digging the lens flare on that street shot. SF makes me jealous. Always love shooting there.

Hard to get a shot of Alcatraz without a Karen in it, but fun to try...

    Canon 10D (Old School!!!)

Good pay-off. I'm assuming it took a decent amount of work to get to that...and at 95 seconds a shot and buffering time

Thanks. Yeah, the tripod is probably the best investment you can make. Buy something that you like to use and WANT to bring along. It is admittedly a pain in the ass, so it's worth it to get something you love to bring. It's also a great excuse to buy Carbon fiber... Carbon always gives me a chubb.

Thanks! Buffering hasn't been an issue with my setup and I do a TON of long exposure. Not really sure why as it was never an issue that I fixed, so I dunno.

Maybe the R models handle that better? Also, one of those "begrudging" purchases was the high speed cards. They do make a difference, unfortunately. Maybe that has something to do with it?

The whole reason I went mirrorless was to be able to pack it in my MTB fanny pack. I still ride my bike arguably way too much. Without racing them anymore, it seems pointless, so I wanted to add some "meaning" to the rides and carry the camera.

    SF is a photographers dream.

Probably the R and the high speed cards. It takes almost as long as my exposure to buffer. I just have the standard sandisc 170mb/s cards. I didn't know buffering was a thing when I bought them, otherwise I may have sprung for something faster.

While having sex he suddenly stops and completely freezes.
    "Whats wrong honey?", she asks.
He replies:"I've seen them do this in porn, its called buffering."

Wont clutter up the thread further other than to say keep posting the pics please. Love checking out the cool pics people take. I like to take them as well but all I use is my old Samsung Galaxy S7 with no retouching so probably not worth posting.

Man, it is... That's dope. I put myself through college as a bike messenger. Best gig/lifestyle ever. The shit that we got into... Some of the best memories, but man, I wish I had gotten into photography at the same time. So many opportunities to create stuff like the photographers I love http://www.bobgruen.com/

You have a great recipe for building a portfolio. A bicycle, a camera and a city like SF is really limitless.

Yeah, that could be it. There would have to be a buffering advantage with the R, right? Maybe if a buddy has a high speed card it would be worth an experiment whenever we get back out of solitary confinement. Might make enough of a difference to justify the cost.

Anyway, keep posting. Love seeing your work!

The R's are always have slower write speeds. The R3 is almost 2x as fast as the R2. I routinely fill that buffer when shooting certain things. I also have struggled with shutter freezing in low temps.
