    PS2 Online gamers?

Just got hooked up with a lan line, What do I need to get online and start playing online? Ethernet card? Is it made by sony? Can I get a wireless one? My gaming platform is away from my cable jack.

    Thanks
    ~Doug

Do you know what game you want to play?

You need the ethernet adapter. There is only one official Sony adapter that works, so no need to worry about which one.

Maybe others will pipe in and say that they played a bunch and had a great time, but I felt like it was a waste of money...

I have Socom and SSX 3, I tried them each like once online and it wasn't fun enough to try it again.

Yeah, I play PS2 online all the time. NFS Underground, Tiger Woods 2004 / 2005, and Madden 2005. I bought the Ethernet Adapter for $35 and hooked it up. All you need is an account... it's pretty simple. Once you hook up, it walks you through registering an account with some online gamer company that governs all of PS2's games.

    Well be careful..

Most games require the Sony adapter.

    Sony PS2 Network adapter

The go-net connects via the USB port on the front. The Sony one connects via the expansion port on the back.

There are a few early games which support the USB network adapters, but all the newer ones require the Sony adapter.

hey uhh, if you have wifi, why not just get the linksys one for the same price @ Best Buy?

No 50ft cables to deal with, and same hardware interface as the sony unit. No useless crap to deal with.

You still need to buy the Sony network adapter to use the linksys adapter...

    The linksys box:
"Converts wired-Ethernet-ready game consoles to Wireless-G (draft 802.11g) network connectivity "

The PS2 is not "wired-Ethernet-ready" until you purchase the ethernet adapter for it.

We've gone one in our network though, it is a nice piece of hardware.

    Top 5 Frequently Asked Questions

It says I'm connected, but I was unable to send the Registration Data to SCEA. What can I do?

This issue generally occurs with high-speed cable users. What may have happened is that you created a Network Configuration file using the manual settings when you should have used the automatic settings. Either edit your existing file or create a new Network Configuration file using the automatic settings. If you continue to have problems, click here for troubleshooting.

My computer is in a different room than my PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system and TV. What can I do to hook up the Network Adaptor?

If you are a dial-up modem user with this problem, the Network Adaptor is an actual modem, so you can simply connect a phone line from any available phone port in your home for the Network Adaptor to dial from.

If you are a high-speed user, the simplest solution is to purchase or use a very long Ethernet patch cable (CAT5) to connect your modem to your Network Adaptor. There are also wireless solutions, but these require the purchase and use of additional networking hardware that SCEA does not provide support for.

Am I completely baked? A dude I work with said he passed on getting the sony one because the Linksys one was a few bucks more when he went to best buy....?

    Now I'm hella confused.

RevHappy ignore my interruption, I'm obviously high - but not higher then the dude at my work.

Oh yeah...and if you get SOCOMI/II or somethin and wanna have a go online, I do have the SCEA adapter sitting in the packaging in my coffee table as we speak. Now I might have to break it out and give it a go.

You get the Sony adapter, plug it into the back of the PS2, get a tiny 1 foot long cable, and plug that into the linksys box.

Then you just have that sitting next to your TV instead of plugging a 50ft cable into the PS2 and running it through your apartment or house.

You'll want to organize your friends to play with.. if you play with random strangers it's pretty lame.

It all seems to be 13 year old kids who play the game 24/7 and they will kick your ass over and over while swearing and saying "D00D I OWN3D j00!"

It's a lot of fun if you've got a gang of friends to play with.

I don't remember ever having to use a PC for anything to hook up the PS2.

I could look at it tonight and give you a hand. What game are you trying to use?

Chances are you should be able to just select "Use DHCP" or "Use Automatic configuration", etc.. and it should just work.

Do you have a firewall/router/whatever box?
